Introduction:

Recently, I've had numerous requests from those who wish to work with me to be an " Boston corporate coach." They say that they've been reading one or more of my newsletters, or even participated in one of my workshops and now, they're seeking me to assist their businesses to be more profitable. It's probably fair to say that most of them (at least those who haven't yet contacted me) suffer from "corporate Alzheimer's.

What is corporate coach?

They are definitely people who have made it in the market... regardless of whether they were executives, entrepreneurs or any other type or "professional." In general, they've discovered how to complete their tasks... but without... having the job done correctly. They'll make excuses and then blame everyone anyone else... but not... them. They'll release memos with "good news" about the month's quota... regardless when... the previous month's memo didn't contain any positive news. They'll put in 70-hour work weeks with no any consideration to their family... or, often... with no regard to their health.

What are the advantages from having a professional coach at your workplace?

The most significant advantage is that a skilled coach will make you to face the facts... And... reality usually isn't pleasant. If you've got an issue to discuss with someone, you can ask that person to place a bet on how long it will take before you make a statement you regret. Most likely, the person you're arguing with (if they're not already cognizant of this) will realize that they've lost the fight and will have to admit it did (in fact) totally wrong and will do whatever is needed. He'll probably apologize and do all is in his power to repay you.

Why do companies employ corporate coaches?

Absolutely not for their tips... that isn't worth the paper they're printed on. Businesses hire coaches for a single motive and only one reason to force the coach to speak about the thoughts of everyone... then... make the person who is complaining apologize (at least in part) to the person he's complaining about. Here's an illustration of how this method is carried out. At one point, I was a member of a management team within Citicorp with the primary goal of to make sure that mortgage loans were repaired after they were in trouble. Our team was known as the "bad men" and we earned lots of money from this. We also earned more (often 3-to-1. When we sold our loan to investment financiers... due to... that investors only wanted loans that were headed to foreclosure.

What's the purpose to have corporate coaches?

Why should you be concerned? Both questions are easy: You need to take note of the fact that often... The Most Successful People aren't likely to relocate to where the Jobs are! Take this for instance: right here in the old-fashioned U.S. of A. There are likely to be 50 000 extremely smart, dedicated people who would love to work for you. But most of them can't find work with your company... simply because... the reason is that they aren't in the same area as you are. Even if they reside close to you, most of them will not live close to you since they do not want to work for you. Why? Simply because working for you would require them to give the freedom of their choice and shifting to where the opportunities are.

How can you choose an excellent applicant?

Following my last seminar, I received a call from a person in New Jersey wrote me to tell me that all the participants had provided him with an idea he had not thought of before... that is... what it takes to attract and keep "the most effective individuals." He explained the one of his main duties was to identify and retain the best people within the organization and then, relay the results of his "finds" to others in the company. He was interested in my assessment on some of the strategies we discussed during the class. I informed him that I believed these techniques were very effective... then I... I went on to describe the ways they can be applied to the advantage of every manager in any organization. Here's what he could have done.

He could have found the top people within the company, and then provided them with the opportunity to go to my seminar. After the seminar it would have been appropriate to inform everyone in his company that he had written an email to Logan with tips on how to keep and attract people who were the "best employees." What might follow is that many of the most successful people from his company's car service to Logan Airport (the ones he determined to be the best of his crop) will realize that they too can take part in my workshop... And... after the session... discover the most innovative techniques to use that will significantly improve their ability to be successful in their work.

When can they start training my leaders in my businesses?

But I'll bet using the strategies I've described above and apply them; you'll be able to identify and retain many of your "best people" within your company than you'd otherwise be in a position to.
