Now when the summer is over for this year and full fledges winter is almost here, it is time to change your tyres and check the status of your summer tyres. It is good to know now if the summer tyres will also last next summer, or if it makes sense to already now get rid of the tyres and prepare to buy new ones before you make the change back next spring. Defining your need helps you save money for the purchase during the next 5 to 6 months. It is always easier to put aside a smaller amount per month, than having a larger unforeseen expenses coming all in one month. Fortunately tyres last quite many years, as we use 2 sets of tyres during every year, but it tends to be on our summer tyres, that we drive the furthest distance. That is why they tend to have a higher usage than winter tyres, but the good thing is that buying a summer tyre tends to be cheaper than purchasing a new set of winter tyres.

However when the summer is bound to come, we tend to want to save up money for a well-deserved 4-week summer vacation. That is one of the advantages of living in Europe, that we do get our fair share of yearly vacation, in order to enjoy our summers. In the Nordics we tend to take 4 weeks during July and then 1 week is then left for winter vacation that tends to be in February. Personally I have always opted to enjoy my summers at home and then extend my summer by traveling to warm countries when the cold and darkness hits us. So I take 2 weeks during October or November and then 2 weeks in February and save 1 week for extra days off around my birthday and Christmas. This tends to increase my exposure to the sun, without increasing the wear of my summer tyres, as I am spending the time on a beach mainly in Asia, far away from the snow and darkness. That is the power of the modern world of easy and cheap traveling.
