6 Simple Ideas for Sprucing Up Your Loved One's Senior Living Apartment for the Holiday
Posted: Dec 06, 2021
With Thanksgiving coming to a close, it’s now time to shift our focus to the next round of holiday festivities. Enjoying delicious food, baking cookies, and exchanging gifts are all typical staples of the season. However, it’s important to not forget to decorate!
If your loved one stays in a senior living community in Escondido, one way that you can lift their spirits this season is to decorate their apartment or suite. Add some festive cheer with these five simple ideas:
- Set up a small, artificial tree: This is so easy to do and the small trees are often affordable. If they have grandkids, have the children make handmade ornaments to put on the tree. Or, you can add momentos or craft small picture ornaments to put on there. Either way, this is an easy but impactful way to feel festive!
- Add a few stockings: Even if they don't have a fireplace, you can still hang stockings with care! Hang them off of a countertop or use pushpins to place them on the wall. Make sure to personalize it with their name so Santa knows where to leave the goodies!
- Don’t forget the wreath! A wreath is a great addition and can be hung upright on the front door of your senior suite. This will also help brighten up the hallway while giving their room a personal touch. If it doesn’t work on the front door, no problem! A wreath will look pretty anywhere in the room.
4.) Add some lights: Double check with your senior living community in Escondido to ensure it’s okay to hang up lights. If it is, use a string of Christmas lights to brighten up around windows or along with counters or doorways. This will also serve as an added bonus of a night light that is subdued but still pretty!
- Make a holiday card wall: If your loved one’s suit doesn’t come with a kitchen or a fridge to hang up holiday cards, that’s okay! You can still create a holiday card wall. If they have a corkboard, arrange any cards or postcards using push pins. They will love seeing all of the well-wishes from friends and family, especially if they include pictures of those they hold dear.
- Holiday knick-knacks: Use this time of year as an opportunity to swap out any knick-knacks lying about on the coffee table or dresser for more festive ones. Does your senior love snowmen? What about Santa and his reindeer or a nativity scene? Whatever their preference is, help them decorate in a way that reflects their tastes and how they would arrange things if they were at home.
We know you want to spend as much time as possible with your senior loved one, especially during the holiday. And while you may not be able to be around them every single day, you can feel confident that they are enjoying the best holiday possible while in their senior living community by helping personalize and spruce up their room with a few of these easy changes.
