5 Things to Put on Your Self-Love Bucket List

Self-love is such a hard thing to achieve and yet vitally important to our everyday lives and overall happiness. When things are difficult, uncomfortable or completely new to us, we must learn by doing. We can practice self-love by making the active decision of treating ourselves well. You’ll find ideas below to put on your self-care bucket list, but remember it can be anything that makes you love yourself!

  1. 1. Get a massage

I rarely get a massage but every time I do I wonder why I don’t do it more often! The quiet, peaceful time I get by myself is glorious and on top of that, my body finally gets some TLC. I am treating myself well, by appreciating my body and taking care of it. So whether it’s a treat or you’re one to schedule a massage often, make sure to add it to your calendar.

2. Take yourself out on a date

For those that don’t like to be alone this may take you out of your comfort zone, but remember that’s where great things happen. The first thing my husband says to me when he sees I need a little more "me" time is to go out to dinner. I could call a friend to go with me but I always decide to go alone and it’s my favorite thing to do. I get to dress up, go to a restaurant without taking a vote and enjoy a full meal while it’s still hot (plus no sharing!). I get to go on the ultimate date! You can also take yourself on a coffee or lunch date if you need to start small.

3. Start a journal

A journal is a beautiful way to express ourselves, grow our minds and explore our relationships (including the one with yourself). Journaling for self love is not always easy--it may make you feel uncomfortable or you’ve never been forced to think about yourself in such a positive loving light before, but the self discovery, confidence and self awareness that will result in journaling will be well worth it.

4. Buy yourself fresh flowers

My most favorite act of self love is getting myself flowers. I don’t need my husband or a special occasion to receive such a gesture because I have a loving relationship with myself. Flowers instantly change my mood, bring new energy to my house and I can enjoy seeing them for more than a day. So grab a bouquet of your favorite flower or color and show yourself some love.

5. Self-Love affirmations

Have you thought or spoken about yourself negatively lately? Maybe you don’t even realize it when it’s covered up in an offhand comment or self deprecating insults. Practicing self love affirmations is a great way to shape a loving and healthy relationship with yourself. Affirmations are sayings that, when repeated and said with feeling, will bring you new confidence, self esteem and love. Examples to use are:

"I am doing my best, and that is enough."

"Asking for help is a gift I give myself and to others."

"My needs matter."

Choosing to create and nurture a positive relationship with yourself is the first step to self-love. You deserve to feel beautiful, confident and loved so take action and start respecting your mind, heart and body.
