If you have dreams of becoming an edupreneur then opening a school must be on your mind too. The education system in India is going through a rapid expansion and there can be no better time than now to become fully invested in this field. To answer any queries you have related to this sector we are here with another blog where we cover the five important steps to becoming an edupreneur and starting a school. What are the important steps for opening a school?

Education in India is recession-proof because there will always be a demand for schools no matter what the situation is. The recent pandemic has shown us that if children cannot go to classrooms then they can take them through the medium of the internet.

There is a deep study required and an understanding of the financial implications that go into it. However intimidating the process may seem it is not impossible, all you need is proper guidance. Mentioned below are the important steps for those who want to open a school:

Decide the kind of school you want to open: The first step towards this dream of yours can only begin once you have finalised what kind of school you want to open. Whether it will be a playschool, a primary school secondary or a K 12, you have to choose and make a decision. At the same time, you will also have to decide how many classes there will be in the starting. It is important to keep in mind that if you open a primary school then it has to be recognized by the State/ Union Territory Department of Education.

Requirement of Land: The land that will be required for setting up a school can either be leased or be bought. If you already own a piece of land then you must ensure that it is approved for educational use by the Municipal and the Education Department of the concerned state. Another important step that you must keep in mind if you want to open a school in India is that the area you choose must have a requirement of a school. And this requirement must be acknowledged by the Department of Education. Once the department has given its acknowledgement they must issue an EC or an Essential Certificate. Right from the issue of the EC, construction should start within a time period of 3 years or else the EC will expire.

Identify the school with a trust or society: A crucial step for starting a school is its identification with a trust or society. It can either be a former society or trust or even a newly founded society. A trust that operates a school in the country of India must be registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act 1860 or Trust’s Act. the society or trust that is formed should be a non-profit organisation. At the same time, if a company decides to invest in a school, it should be registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013.

The vision of the School: If you wonder about how to start a school then you must also know the importance of having a vision and mission for your school. Every school requires a properly defined and outlined institutional vision. The vision that you decide for your school acts as the guiding approach and philosophy that it will follow. The curriculum orientation must also be described clearly along with the methods that will be used for the purpose of assessment of the children. The social goals that the school wants to accomplish must also be decided and mentioned as an enterprise in the education sector.

Affiliation and Recognition: If you open a school in India and do not get it recognition and affiliation then it is of no use. It is of utmost importance for a new school to have a State Board affiliation and recognition. The State board affiliation is only given once a NOC has been issued. The NOC is only issued if the land that is used for the building of the school, the infrastructure of the school, facilities that are provided for children and the staff – all are in place. Once your school starts running in a proper manner, you can apply for an affiliation with the CBSE. it must be in accordance with the by-laws of the board to which the affiliation is sent.

Recruitment: The most important part of a school are its teachers and the Principal and this is recruitment forms a pivotal part of opening a school. While the teachers are the backbone of any school, the entire show is run by the administration of the Principal. The Principal is selected by the Education Board of India on the basis of the qualifications they have and their work experience.

Once you have opened a school it is crucial to make sure that the management of the school is done properly. All this is for the betterment of the students and the kind of education that they will be given there. We hope we were able to answer any doubts that you had regarding how to start school.
