Monday through Friday can be…chaotic at times. Work obligations, school functions, kids activities, laundry, grocery shopping–the list goes on! Sometimes the weekends seem to feel like the only time to breathe and re-group. Sundays tend to be my catch up days where I review my planner, make my shopping lists and try to make sure we have clean clothes to start the week. I consider these self-care activities that I value because they make me feel prepared and inspired for the week ahead.

There are also self care activities that seem a little more indulgent (i.e. I actually have time to enjoy them) and are perfect to sprinkle into your weekend fun. Try them all or choose one each weekend to feel more rested and ready to tackle anything that comes your way.

  1. Bath Night

When I have the spare minute of bathing myself or washing my hair it comes in the form of a quick shower with the door open and mind racing with to-do lists. Meeting my basic hygienic needs is not self care. A luxurious bath night with candles, essential oils, bubbles, and music on the other hand IS. Take an evening weekend to relax in the hot water, grab a favorite book (or wine) and enjoy your bath time!

2. Create a Self-Care Basket

A self-care basket is a simple and effective tool to give a boost to your mental health, especially during a busy week. On the weekend, create or update your self-care basket with your favorite items! Anything can go in here as long as they make you feel GOOD. Items could include a magazine, essential oils, your favorite chocolates, specialty tea/coffee, stress ball, and chapstick.

3. Spend Time Outside

After a busy week of housework, sitting in an office or chauffeuring everyone around, you don’t get much quality time outside. Carve out some time this weekend to go for a walk in nature, set out a lunch picnic or read on the patio to get some sunshine on your face. Being outside can have positive effects on your physical and mental health so breathe in that fresh air and reflect on the week of a job well done.

4. Cuddle Time

When I say "cuddle time" for an indulgent self-care activity, I don’t mean two minutes on the couch with your feet touching your partner while you’re scrolling social media. This snuggle time with your partner, kids or pets is with no agenda, to-do list in mind, or guilt for taking it easy. Grab a blanket and take advantage of the power of touch to feel connected, loved and relaxed.

5. Breakfast/Brunch Experience

Most morning breakfasts consist of lukewarm coffee and left over crumbs from my toddlers semi-healthy breakfast. On the weekends we usually don’t have to rush out the door as quickly so I enjoy a more put together morning meal. I truly love this activity, especially since my husband will make it for me! We experiment with what we have in the fridge or go all out with pancakes, eggs and bacon. Don’t forget your mimosa! Not much of a cook? Find your favorite local restaurant, invite some friends and enjoy a long brunch.
