Tips to prepare for a video conference

Posted: Dec 29, 2021
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, physical meetings have become a dated concept. People are more comfortable connecting virtually. As an employee, you may need to attend video conferences regularly. Despite it not being face-to-face communication, you must look and act professionally. For this, take video conference training. There are a host of such programs available online.
They refine your virtual communication skills for these conferences. While this is just a way to prepare, consider these other tips:
Dress to impress
When it comes to clothing, choose solid colors. Avoid stripes and elaborate patterns. If you are a female, stick to simple jewelry. Do away with dangling earrings. Avoid any accessory that makes noise. The least you want is to distract the audience. Focus mainly on dressing from the waist up. Ensure that your outfit is nicely ironed. You may also keep a brush or a small mirror by your desk. This way, you can make last-minute fixes to your hair or outfit.
Remove distractions
While public speaking, you must stay focused. Sometimes, you may lose your chain of thoughts. This usually happens when there are distractions around. If you have children or pets, keep them out of your room. Inform your family members that you are on a video call. Maybe even lock your door to avoid interruption. This keeps you away from embarrassing situations. It allows you to focus better.
Fix your lighting
Lighting and angles play an essential role in video calls. So, ensure that you are in a well-lit area. Adjust your camera angle so that your face is properly visible. These are some minor yet essential things to keep in mind. They help you significantly while interacting with new investors or clients. A video conference training is designed to help you with this. It teaches you about lighting, angles, and backgrounds.
Keep notes
There is nothing wrong with being nervous. It happens to the best of us. However, it could make us forgetful at times. To avoid this, jot down notes. List out the points you wish to highlight. Keep them next to your computer or laptop. If you want, have a look at them during your call. This will let you stay on track. While writing notes, make sure they are written clearly. You do not want to squint at your notes during a call. Use keywords if necessary.About the Author
