BIS Registration For Electronic And IT Products

Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) Registration is a significant quality control compliance for Manufacturing / Importing / Exporting or introducing any Electronics & IT Products in the market. According to the government's Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), manufacturers must register their products under BIS Registration before launching them to the market.

Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS)

There are 76 categories of products that are recognized under the CRS scheme. All these products require a mandatory BIS Registration for manufacturing or sale in the marketplace. Here is a list of products that come under the CRS scheme.

  • Electronic Video Games IS 616:217

  • Notebook Tablet PC IS 13252 (Part-1): 2010

  • LED TV IS 616:217

  • Digital Camera IS 13252 (Part-1): 2010

  • Low–voltage Switchgear and Control Gear: Switches, Disconnectors, Switch Disconnectors, and Fuse – Combination Units

  • Low–Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear: Electromechanical Contactors and Motor – Starters IS/IEC 60947:PART 4: SEC 1: 2012

  • Low – Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear: A.C. Semiconductor Motor Controllers and Starters IS/IEC 60947: Part 4: Sec 2: 2014

Process of BIS Registration Under CRS Scheme

  • Online Submission of Application Form

  • Testing of Product in the BIS Approved Laboratory

  • Online / Offline Submission of Hardcopy of Application

  • Scrutiny of Application & Report by BIS Officials

  • Grant of License

Documents Required for BIS Registration

  • Self-declaration of conformity

  • Testing Laboratory Report of the product sample

  • Name & Address documents of the Manufacturing Unit

  • Scope of business

  • Product’s Models/Varieties details

Time Taken to Obtain BIS License

  • The time for obtaining a BIS License is dependent on the Laboratory in which the manufacturer provides samples for testing and submission of technical details of the products.

  • After completion of testing, the reports are sent to BIS. If all the reports are as per requirement by the authority, BIS initializes the Licensing process.

Cost of BIS Registration

The cost of registration depends on the following criteria:

  • Manufacturer’s location (National or International)

  • Product type

  • Number of Models

  • Government & Service fee

Validity of BIS License

  • The validity of the BIS License is of TWO Years. Afterward, the licensee must go through the process of the renewal of the license.

  • The licensee should start the renewal process from the BIS Portal three months before the validity of the license expires.

  • If the renewal application is not received till 90 days after completion of the validity of the license then it will be expired.
