Like in the early times, counters were invented for this purpose and in the same way, a digital counter is a counter made and used digitally. It counts how many times in a sequence, a specific event or thing occurred. It is a small but indeed a great invention to help us in easy and applicable counting.

WORKING-

It works with the use of flip- flops which are embodied in it. Initially the readings are counted in binary forms and are later converted to user understandable form so that the readings are easy to read and use.

TYPES-

There are generally two primitive types of digital counters which may later be classified into some other types-

  • Synchronised or Synchronous Counters- In these types of devices, the flip- flops are triggered each time in a circuit at the same time. These work synchronically and sequentially and require the usage of flip- flops more frequently and prominently.
  • Asynchronized or Asynchronous Counters- In these types of counters, the flip- flops are not used frequently and these do not work sequentially. They are also known as ripple counters
