Ankara offers lots to see and do in two days, from the walls of a historic castle overlooking the city to its modern shopping streets. Day one

Visit Ankara Castle and Hamamönü

Start your day in Ankara by exploring the famous Ankara Castle, which dates to the Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman Empires and is one of the city's oldest landmarks. Naturally, no dinner would be complete without dessert. Ankara has many sweet goodies to offer; make sure to try some baklava at Hacibaba, the city's most famous baklava shop. Since 1949, you may find every kind of baklava perfectly cooked.

Visit the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations

The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, one of Ankara's most important museums, has displays Anatolian history from the Paleolithic to the Neolithic periods and the Assyrian, Hittite, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman Empires.

Eat dinner at Trilye

You'll need to do reservations in advance for this fantastic seafood restaurant, which is also a little more upscale — it's undoubtedly one of Ankara's top restaurants. Trilye provides Aegean and Mediterranean dumplings and the day's freshest seafood, which is best enjoyed with a few glasses of raki.

Visit An?tkabir

Not only is Anitkabir the tomb of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Turkish Republic's founder and first president, but it is also a work of art. Make a trip to Ali Uzun, a historic candy shop that has been there since 1935, if you want to make some delicious treats home as a souvenir from Ankara. Visit CerModern
