Mazda Look Set for Local Sales Growth

The Australian market is a very competitive section of the automotive industry. However, when it comes to Mazda cars for sale, the brand holds a great deal of consumer confidence. This is often reflected in the sales figures and awards throughout the range. However, while the current sales trend has flattened out, the company are confident that their new models and entry into new segments will allow for a resurgence in local sales growth.

According to Managing Director for Mazda Australia, Martin Benders, the company is confident of achieving their fiscal success goals. While Benders has declared that the company will not be chasing sales volume simply to achieve volume goals, the company firmly has its sights on the future and sales growth. Mid term goals are set at 100,000 but the company is anticipating growth from new market segments rather than making significant changes in the volume of models.

According to recent VFACTS figures for vehicle registrations, Mazda is currently 1.4 percent down compared to the same sales period last year. This is still favourable considering the whole market figures are down 2.1 percent.

While many people have remarked that the latest model Toyota Corolla has surpassed the Mazda 3 as Australia's most popular new car, Benders is not fazed. The Mazda 3 is actually seeing an increased sales figure of ten percent compared to the small car segment market which is actually down almost four percent. This in addition to the wide variety of higher specification Mazda cars for sale has led to eighty percent of Mazda's sales volume coming from the mid grade and above specifications of the model. This is compared to eighty percent of Corolla sales being derived from the mid grade specification or below. Benders suggests that chasing cheaper sales at the more aggressive price points at this stage is counter productive.

Typically, car manufacturers make a greater degree of profits from better equipped models. This means that the ultra competitive entry level market for small cars has created a tight profit margin for this price point. Benders has stated that the sales decline for the Mazda 2 is due to the anticipated arrival of the all new model due later in the year. However, the company will "consider action" on the BT 50 and Mazda 6 models which are currently being tracked as below their respected market sales patterns. This action could take the form of service package or better finance options to boost sales.

Mazda have yet to confirm their timetable on a small SUV model. The Small SUV market is currently seeing a real boost in sales, with figures up seventeen percent year to date. While many manufacturers have already entered a model into this segment, Mazda have yet to place an entrant. However, there is a great deal of speculation about a smaller version of the CX5, which some are expecting to be called the CX3. However, although Benders acknowledged that this is an opportunity, he would not provide further details.
