Valentine’s Day is a day to show the people you care about some extra love! It’s not just reserved for couples. Besides, those couples who have been together a while could now have a few extra family members to celebrate the day with. So don’t feel the pressure to buy the flowers and have a romantic dinner for two on this calendar holiday. Enjoy the day with fun ways to spend Valentine’s Day with everyone you love–your family.

Have a romantic dinner for a party of…more! So I just said you don’t have to have a romantic dinner, BUT you could if you wanted to. My mom’s birthday is also Valentine’s Day so instead of waiting for a family dinner reservation, we would turn the kitchen table into our own fancy restaurant. I clearly remember eating by candlelight and having lobster for the first time on Valentine’s Day as a kid. So get some fancy cuisine or order to-go from an upscale restaurant, set the table, light the candles, dim the lights and play some soft music for the whole family. The kids will love the new ambiance and might even enjoy a new dish they’ve never had. Don’t forget dessert and a fancy drink for the adults.

Spread the love by surprising your little ones with love notes throughout the day. Stick an encouraging note on their bathroom mirror for them to see first thing, add to their lunch box, or sneak it into the book they are reading. They will love the anticipation of finding another note and will feel extra special on this loving day. Don’t stress about writing or finding the right notes, you can print these simple encouraging notes that are perfect for the whole family. Also, don’t feel limited to just Valentine’s Day; these notes are great for birthdays and special occasions as well!

Don’t limit the holiday to just the evening. Start the day off right with some extra love in the morning as well. You can make a special breakfast of heart shaped pancakes and chocolate covered strawberries for the kiddos before they head off to school. Or on a slow morning have THEM bring you breakfast in bed. If a crowded night out doesn’t sound appealing, then try booking reservations for a new brunch hot spot. Don’t forget the mimosas!

Maybe you dreamed of going out dancing with your partner this year and well….kids. Don’t give up on the dream! Clear out some space in the living room, set some mood lighting (for the procrastinators, if your Christmas lights are still up this is for you!) and pick a favorite music station. Show your kids your best dance moves or challenge them to a dance off. While the kids are going wild, grab your partner and sneak in a slow dance for two.

Make your own Valentine’s cards. Personalize your valentine’s by crafting and creating your own for each family member. Make is a family affair by clearing off a table and getting out all the craft supplies. Don’t be afraid to get messy and have fun while spending time with your kiddos. You will have beautiful keepsakes and could even hang them up for next year's decorations. Don’t forget making one for the grandparents, they’ll especially love the personalization of each card!

Valentine’s Day is a day to show everyone you care about how much you appreciate and love them so start by spending time with your family!
