Sydney is an ultra-modern city in Australia and the proud capital of New South Wales, set in an incredible harbourfront location with a year-round perfect climate. This world-class city is full of tourist attractions for people of all ages, which also includes seniors as well. Don’t let your age stop you from going around exploring the city and experiencing everything from popular attractions to the lesser known gems of the area. Sydney has been increasingly sensitive towards senior access in public spaces and this has made it all the more easier to access some of the best attractions in the city. I was more than proud of the outcome I received when I took my grandma to these places for her birthday, so consider the following list if you're looking to have a good time with your old folks.

The harbour is more than an aquatic playground for water activities, it's also home to some of the biggest attractions of Australia such as the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The best way to get a taste of these spectacles without actually visiting each one is to book a seat on the lunch cruise in Sydney Harbour, where you can glide along the waterways taking in the gorgeous views with a sumptuous array of dishes. You can choose from three popular vessels– the authentic paddlewheeler, multi-million dollar catamaran, and the premium glass boat, all with air-conditioned, modern and ambient interiors. After an enjoyable feast me and my grandma took it to the outer decks to take in the fresh air and click some awesome photos set against the gorgeous harbour backdrop. This was one of her favourite moments on the Sydney Harbour lunch cruise along with the tantalising food. Even the crew welcomed us with a smile on their face and was proactive throughout the cruise duration and played a pivotal role in helping us enjoy a soothing experience.

After a delightful dining experience on the harbour cruises, my grandma insisted on going for a short walk. And as you may already know Sydney has a lot of walking trails, gardens or even beaches to go for a calm and peaceful stroll. Located in the heart of Sydney Central Business District lies the Royal Botanic Garden which is a perfect follow-up after a nice warm lunch. If your old folks love flowers and gardening, in general, they will surely love this park. The gardens here are rooted long back to the agricultural practises of the Aboriginal Australians and how they used to fertilise the land to make it more productive. We spent time at the fountains, met some feathered friends, fed them and sat on the lush green spots which can be found everywhere throughout the garden. You can even spot some friendly critters here if you're lucky. With the serene wind flowing through the leaves and the sound of traffic in the background made it a tranquil experience. It is the ultimate location within the city for a relaxing time, especially if you are accompanied by the elderly.

Finally we ended up shopping at the Paddington markets in Sydney’s Oxford Street, which is arguably one of the best markets to browse around in the city. This saturday market offers all types of locally produced goods from fashion, households and artefacts to local eateries. We stopped at many stalls and bought a lot of goodies for my grandma and she was particularly impressed with the clothing section, which had influences from several parts of the city. Come here on the first Sunday of every month to take a look at some enticing craftsmanship from the native artists.
