The Blue Mountains, Sydney

Blue Mountains is only a 2-hour drive west of Sydney Central Business District. The Blue Mountains gets its name from the blue haze that is formed by the amalgamation of the oil droplets secreted by the Eucalyptus trees and water vapour. This phenomenon scatters short-wavelength light rays which are predominantly in blue colour. This is a mountainous region consisting of rugged and dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, villages, eucalyptus forests, caves, and bushlands with native wildlife. The Blue Mountains is also famous for the Three Sisters, a unique rock formation, located close to the town of Katoomba, towering above Jamison Valley. The best spot to view this rock formation is from the Echo Point Lookout in Katoomba, which is perched on the edge of the escarpment. This is also the starting point for many great walks, including the trail that leads you to the Three Sisters. Speaking of walking trails, you can walk on foot to many spots in the mountains and you can expect to be surprised by the natural beauty and at night you can explore a certain underground cave and see glowing worms! Apart from walking off the trails and exploring the wilderness, the area is also suited for most outdoor activities including hiking, camping, abseiling, rock climbing, 4WD adventures and so on. So if you want to take a step forward and see how Sydney looks from the outside, get to the Blue Mountains.
