Is a Winter Break in Morzine For You?

It hopefully goes without saying that if your idea of a perfect holiday is warm blue seas, beaches and hot sunshine, then the ski resort of Morzine isn’t likely to be for you! But if you're looking forward to the exhilaration of a winter break it could well be perfect.

If you imagine this resort is all about skiing, you may be pleasantly surprised to know that it’s perfectly possible to have a winter break in Morzine without being either the world’s greatest skier or someone who even enjoys the sport. That’s because there are plenty of things to do here that involve activities such as swimming, sunbathing (yes, perfectly possible under cover), walking, tobogganing and a whole host of other things that don’t necessarily involve putting on your skis. Of course, the appeal of the resort is built around the fact that there is a lot of snow and stunning mountain scenery. If you like the idea of luxury and the staggering beauty of Alpine mountains, then the resort might be for you even if you have no interest in the slopes, as such.

Good participatory skiing

All that said, however, the primary reason people come here is for the excellent skiing. The resort prides itself on providing good family-oriented skiing, as well as some demanding slopes for those who have greater skills and a desire to challenge themselves against nature.

What’s nice about this resort though, is that it isn’t full of "posers". The vast majority of visitors are usually what could be termed as ‘ordinary' skiers and winter sports enthusiasts, so there’s an underlying emphasis on family fun and family values. You won’t need a huge bank balance to afford a holiday here, and most would argue that is a good thing. If you do want absolute exclusivity and can afford to pay for it, then perhaps a winter break in Morzine might not be for you.

Good but not excessive après-ski

This is, of course, a very subjective area. Even so, most people would agree that nightlife and off-piste entertainment here is great fun and pretty active, but without reaching some of the real excesses that can characterise some other ski resorts after dark. If you're looking for great social scene with civilised and like-minded people then a winter break in Morzine will probably meet your requirements. If your main objective, though, is to go from one disco to another, then perhaps you will need to look elsewhere.
