"A road trip is a way for the whole family to spend time together and annoy each other in interesting new places." –Tom Lichtenheld

I have done my fair share of family road trips, whether I was younger and driving to distant relatives or now when I take my own little ones on family vacations. Road trips can be an exciting way to travel but also a little daunting when you have children to entertain in a confined space for a long period of time. To make it a little less scary, here or 5 fun family games you can play on your next road trip so you can enjoy the open road:

  1. Family Feud

Great for a fun family competition, Family Feud will keep you all entertained for a long time in the car! Divide your car companions into two teams and designate a host. The goal is to answer the question with the highest scoring answer. Check out this kids family feud game for the best questions and an already provided point system for easy playing!

  1. The Alphabet Game

This game is great for a little bit older kiddos who can recognize letters easily and have a quick eye. Start with the letter "A" and look for words on billboards, road signs, restaurants etc. that start with that letter. Shout it out and go from A-Z. For harder letters you can also make it a little easier and look for words that have the letter in it as well.

  1. Would You Rather

A fun game even the driver can play! Would You Rather is also great for all ages, just adjust your questions to your audience. Go around the vehicle and ask the next person a silly, fun, gross or thought provoking question. You can even take a car poll to see how many of you would answer the same.

  1. License Plate Game

My husband and I play this game in the car more often than my kids! Look for all 50 states license plates while on the open road. Write them down or find a fun printable the kids can color in for more of a visual. See if you can find them all!

  1. I Spy

Perfect for little ones, I Spy can be played anytime in the car. One person in the car states an I Spy something "insert clue." The rest have to guess what it is. Make sure it’s not too hard that you may have passed it before they could answer. We like to do nature and animal clues. This game is also great to practice colors, animal sounds and shapes.

All of these games can be adjusted to make it harder or easier depending on the car passengers and the areas you’re driving through. Remember to keep this list handy of 5 games to play in the car on your next road trip to keep the anxiety away and fun family memories intact!
