HERNIA – In Newborn and Children

Hernia is the condition which involve the bulging of organs or tissue through abdominal opening. Most of the time hernia is seen in the areas between chest to hips part. Hernia also involve stomach or can say intestines.
Hernia mainly causes due to weakness of muscles or combination of pressure or fascia. Although muscle weakness can be suffered by any age group but mostly seen at birth.
Types of hernia :-
- Internal
- External
External Hernia - external hernia are more commonly seen in people and they can be diagnosed easily where as internal hernia are difficult to diagnose and also not seen common.
There are three common types of hernias that are as follows :-
- Imguinal hernia
- Femoral hernia
- Umbilical hernia
Femoral hernia - femoral hernia are less common as compare to inguinal hernia but the femoral hernia is most commonly notice in females body part. Females mainly notice hernia in groin part or Uper thigh area.
Umbilical hernia - umbilical hernia is most seen in belly part near the navel.
Symptoms of hernia :-
- Swelling near the bulge area
- Pain in bulge area
- Pain while lifting the weight
- Sensation of feeling full all the time
- Irritation near the hernia
- Difficult to swallowing the food
- Heartburn can be notice
- Indigestion
- Chest pain
External hernia can be diagnose physically but in case of internal hernia your doctor may ask you for ultrasound or CT scan. As soon as the hernia is diagnosed you can go through surgical procedure.
