Every year, these holy sites are flocked by pilgrims in large numbers, some seeking divine intervention to overcome life’s many hurdles; some in search of peace of mind, body and soul; while some looking to give up all worldly treasures and merge their beings with the God Almighty. Several pilgrimage tours remain open throughout the year that give faith-filled devotees a chance to break free from everyday shackles and get close to the One who brought everyone and everything into existence.

Maa Vaishno Devi temple, located in the state of J&K, is one of the most popular and frequently visited holy shrines in India, which attracts local, domestic and international pilgrims alike. The mountainous path leading to the shrine, famous as a Shakti Peeth or divine abode of Goddess Durga, is travelled by thousands of devotees every year. Followers strongly believe that Mahashakti beckons a call to her children, regardless of their age, gender, physical ability or societal status. Once received, the follower must answer the call with complete faith, love and devotion in Maa Vaishno Devi and kick-start the journey to Mata’s pious terrain. Nowadays, pilgrims have the benefit of choosing from a range of Vaishno devi yatra packages, which offer services aimed at creating a comfortable, hassle-free and truly satisfying yatra experience for travelers.

The holy shrine of Maa Vaishno Devi sits high at an altitude of about 5,200 feet on the Trikuta hills, a part of the Shivalik mountain range in the Himalayas. Pilgrims first reach Jammu and then travel further to Katra, considered as the base camp of the yatra to Vaishno Devi shrine. Trekkers enthusiastically march along the narrow paved path leading to the Sanctum Sanctorum or Holy Cave, the true abode of the Mother; rallying cries of Jai Mata Di to keep up their spirits as well as of other travelers battling the hilly terrain. The arduous trek is conquered with faith as the devotees gain strength to carry on with their exhausting climb by seeping in Mata’s divine power from the air all around them. Once inside the Sanctum Sanctorum, it is hard to miss the strong presence of the Mother Goddess, who resides inside the cave in the form of three small rock formations or Pindies, symbolizing Goddesses Kali, Lakshmiand Saraswati.

Over the years, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has undertaken several important development activities to make the yatra more convenient and fulfilling for followers pouring in from all corners of India and abroad. The hilly terrain culminating in the shrine is flocked with small tea and snack shops on either side, offering much needed refreshments to drained travelers along their journey. Trekkers can also hire horses, mules or manual palkis, which offer respite to people who may be unable to endure physical hardships during the long walk. Several Vaishno devi yatra packages now include a convoy and even helicopter drop until a point close to the holy cave, ensuring comfort and safety for children, the aged or those with certain physical disability. After the darshan, pilgrims are free to stroll around the temple premises or continue their trek towards other places of interest such as the Bhairon Temple, the Ban Ganga Templeand Ardh Kuwari.
