Top Australian Cities For a City Break in 2022
Posted: May 07, 2022
The Land Down Under is usually imaged as an extensive land of untouched beaches, forests or deserts and red outbacks but in reality Australia is one of the most urbanised nations on the planet, with more than three quarters of the population living in the city. So if you're looking to discover the urban side of Australia with some striking cities, tick off these remarkable cities!
Sydney
The biggest and most diverse city in Australia is also its most buzzing among the lot and is the ultimate city break. Filled with iconic attractions and the most scenic urban geography, Sydney is a must-visit city. Cruises are a fascinating way to enjoy the best views of the city with yummy food and drinks and serve as the perfect city break. Hop on a dinner cruise in Sydney on a premium glass boat and soak in 360° views of the harbour icons including the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and many more. Indulge in a freshly prepared banquet menu and pair it with drinks which can be purchased from the fully licensed bar! A Lunch cruise in Sydney Harbour is also an excellent option and is a great way to enjoy the city skyline in a new light while savouring some lip-smacking food and drinks! You can also catch a ferry to Manly, stroll along the striking Bondi and Coogee coastline, eat epic delicacies though Surry Hills and then enjoy a drink on Oxford Street. That ain’t a lot to squeeze into your Sydney itinerary, is it?
Canberra
The capital state of Australia is often overlooked when it comes to getaway destinations but Canberra is actually a great city to visit! This city is all about the museums and memorials with a thriving hospitality scene transforming the once-sterile city and people who still write it off as boring haven't visited recently. Lonsdale St. in Braddon boasts some quirky cafes and the vibrant watering holes in Manuka compliments the massive attractions including the Parliament House, the Museum of Australian Democracy and the iconic Australian War Memorial. For a different experience you can head to Alpaca Magic where you can walk a llama or a donkey, enjoy a bbq with some alpacas or wake up with a slow coffee.
Newcastle
Newcastle is New South Wales’ second largest city, located only two hours north of Sydney, and is like a little version of the harbour city– right down to the breezy beaches and prominent harbour. Newcastle was named after its twin city in England over two centuries ago when it used to be a gritty industrial town. But over the past couple of years the city has had a stunning resurgence thanks to a wave of top-notch restaurants, cafes and bars. Whether you're in Newcastle for a weekend getaway or a full vacation, there is plenty to fill your itinerary. A 40 min drive south of the city you will come across the iconic Lake Macquarie, which is the largest coastal salt water lake in Australia.
Gold Coast
This list wouldn't be complete without listing the iconic coastal city of Queensland, Gold Coast. The glittering strip of sands have evolved significantly since hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games and has presented itself well on the international forum. The setting of towering skyscrapers over the golden stretches of sands is only one aspect of the region but you can indulge in a variety of activities and adventures. From exploring the popular surf locations, numerous bench spots, a vibrant shopping scene and a breathtaking hinterland for the complete experience of this sun-soaked city. Gold Coast also houses a few prominent amusement parks which can also be accessed from nearby towns and cities including Bribsane!
In life, it’s not where you go, it’s who you travel with.
