Express Entry Draw is resuming from July 2022 – Aptech Visa
Posted: May 08, 2022
In early July 2022, Express Entry draws for Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Canadian Experience Class candidates will restart. Sean Fraser, Canada's Immigration Minister, made the statement on April 22.
Express Entry is the main pathway by which the Canadian government handles skilled worker applications; therefore, this marks a significant shift in the recent Canadian immigration scene.
As a result of the pandemic, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) had to reduce its application processing capacity and make various policy changes, including a temporary pause in all-program Express Entry draws.
For over 50 years, Canada's flagship and most popular economic immigration program had been the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP).
Canada admitted tens of thousands of professionals and skilled workers from across the world each year through the FSWP based on their ability to establish themselves in the Canadian labour market successfully. However, from December 2020, Canada has paused the program's invitation rounds to decrease the volume of applications piling up in processing raw.
Months later, another significant federal immigration program, the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), suffered the same demise and hasn't released a draw since September 2021.
As Canada has the lowest unemployment rate and the most significant number of job openings on record, and due to an ageing population and a low birth rate, reopening the country to qualified, skilled people has become a more important aim for the Canadian government.
"With the economy growing faster than firms can hire new workers, Canada must consider all options to ensure that we have the skills and labour needed to power our growth," said Sean Fraser, Canada's Immigration Minister.
By July, Express Entry will have reclaimed its position as Canada's principal method of recruiting overseas talent. In fact, by 2024, the Canadian government plans to expand yearly Express Entry admissions to almost 110,000 people.
Reasons to apply early for Express Entry.
Though July may seem far away, there are numerous compelling reasons to submit your profile early to the Express Entry pool. The following are the most important:
1. By early July, you should be able to get an ITA.
It will take time to prepare and submit your Express Entry profile. You can enter the Express Entry pool sooner if you start planning and gathering your documentation as soon as possible. You need to gather all the documents, language tests, educational credential assessment reports, health reports, Police Clearance reports, etc.
You are more likely to have your paperwork in order by July by starting the process now. You could be in a place by July and receive an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence (PR) when the draws commence in July if you start the process now.
Take advantage of the tie-breaking rule.
Canada's PR process is based on a point-based system. For candidates from all over the world who want to come to Canada, points are awarded to them based on various factors like age, education, language, work experience, etc., under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). If two candidates have the same number of points, IRCC uses the time and date of their pool entrance to break the tie. As a result, the earlier you apply, the more likely you will be invited to participate in a draw.
Leverage the benefit of PNP
One of Canada's main immigration routes is through the Provincial Nominee Program. The program is intended to encourage skilled worker immigration and make settling easier in regions around the country. Initially, each Canadian province had its selection method.
However, many provinces and territories have constructed paths aligned with the federal system to speed up the immigration process since the advent of the Express Entry system.
When you submit a profile in the Express Entry pool and choose a province, you'll get a double benefit: you'll get a direct Express Entry invitation, and the province of your choice will select you. Furthermore, receiving a provincial nomination will increase your CRS score by 600 points. You will almost certainly receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian PR in a future draw with a higher score.
Conclusion
The pandemic has posed significant hurdles for potential immigrants who want to enter Canada through the Express Entry system in the last two years.
Now that the borders have reopened, Canada's major immigration stream is just months away from the resumption, and the country is projected to witness an increase in newcomers in the coming years.
