Recycled product for sustainable development
Posted: May 19, 2022
Sustainable development is the solution to the problem of environmental pollution. All are aware of the different pollution and its impact.
Sustainable development is a development by sustaining the ability of natural resources and ecosystem services on which the economy and society rely. It aims to create a more prosperous, more equal, and more secure world by 2030.
Recycling is one of the most powerful approaches to sustainable development. There are 17 goals of sustainable development, poverty, hunger, education, health and well-being, education, gender equality, water and sanitation, energy, economic growth and decent work, infrastructure, industry and innovation, reducing inequalities, sustainable cities, consumption and production, climate action, ecosystems, peace and justice, and partnership respectively. It is set in UN General Assembly Summit in September 2015. Most of them can correlate with recycling.
In the recycling of material, the best things are made from waste. Here the use of the same material is done for a different purpose. India is a country that is quickly developing. Waste generation is inevitable as a result of progress, and India is no different.
By 2025, the amount of waste generated will have increased threefold, from municipal solid waste to plastic waste to car waste. For this problem, 3R i.e. reduce-reuse-recycle is the solution. Material like plastic bags, old clothes, milk cartons, plastic bottles, empty food containers, aluminium foil, plastic lids, books unused cell phones and unwanted DVDs/VCDs can be recycled.
BENEFITS OF RECYCLING
Some importance of using recycled products is as follows.
It protects the ecosystem
It causes less disruption to the natural environment when recycling is done.
Animals are not harmed as fewer trees and forests are cut.
We help to protect ecosystems and species and reduce disruption and damage to the natural world.
It helps in natural resources conservation
Some of the world’s natural resources are in depleting now. Recycling contributes to their conservation. It conserves forests and trees by recycling paper. Recycling metals minimizes the demand for fresh metal ore extraction. It aids in developing a sustainable future.
It saves energy
The energy required for the production of new products is comparatively high than for recycled products. So indirectly the recycling aids to save the energy
It reduces the carbon emission
Recycling consumes less energy, so it lowers the carbon footprint and carbon emissions. Reducing our carbon footprint helps to reduce landfill methane leakage, that contributes to climate change.
It saves money
The production of new products costs more than recycling the product. So the use of recycled product reduces the cost and help in saving money.
Educate the people about environmental protection
The recycled product spreads awareness among the people about environmental degradation and the need for environmental protection.
It creates job and business opportunities
It creates startups and jobs every year. Recycling is the new business sector.
It reduces land filling and incineration
As the product is recycled, it reduces land filling and incineration. It also reduces the efforts of waste management.
There are some myths about recycled products.
- The recycled products are more costly than the original products
- The quality of recycled products is not good
- The recycled product is not available when we need them.
Conclusion
The present article is about the awareness of recycled products. There is a need for awareness of recycled products and related businesses in India.
