When it hasn’t been your day, week or even your year and you need a break! (Shout out to all those who got my Friends reference!).

Maybe you don’t have time to take the two week vacation you so greatly deserve, but you can take advantage of the small moments in your day to regroup and recharge. And as a busy mom, those breaks need to be simple so they are effective. So when you feel like your head is going to explode, look over this list of 5 easy ways to take a mom break.

When you feel like you are consumed by the role of being a mom try taking up a new hobby!

"Having a hobby can be really beneficial for our mental health. Hobbies have shown to give us lower stress, better physical health, more sleep, more social connections, improved work performance, and increased happiness."

Choose a hobby that you ENJOY and make you HAPPY! It doesn’t have to be time consuming or expensive either. And don’t worry if you haven’t had a hobby in ages–here’s a complete list of examples of hobbies for women!

"A sweet friendship refreshes the soul." -Proverbs 27:9

Sometimes the best break is one that you can share with another person! Whether you only have 5 minutes to call your BFF or you can plan a girls night, those times together in person or in spirit are a much needed refreshment. Feel like yourself again by having an adult conversation with a good friend.

"For me, exercise is more than just physical – it’s therapeutic." Anonymous

A quick and easy way to get a break in your day is to get moving! Don’t stress if you can’t get an intense hour workout in (or even feel like doing that). A brisk walk alone in the neighborhood will be just as beneficial. Trying an activity that you like doing–running, biking, yoga, toning etc.--will motivate and excite you to put on your tennis shoes when you have a few minutes that you can getaway.

"In a noisy world, quiet time is a solution."

When you’re feeling overwhelmed and overstimulated by work, kids, social life etc. sometimes all you want/need is a moment or two to do nothing. Even when you feel like you don’t have time, I promise you you can take 5-10 minutes for yourself. Closet, bathroom, spare bedroom, outside–whatever wherever—to enjoy some silence, breath, stretch or meditate. You’ll feel more calm and relaxed to tackle the day ahead.

"Eat good, feel good."

As an intentional mom, you’re focused on making sure your family is eating healthy foods and the right proportions. But when it comes to YOUR healthy eating, you can’t even remember if you had lunch yesterday! So if you’ve found yourself grumpy, easily angered or overall annoyed with everyone, walk yourself to the kitchen and grab a healthy snack. The key here is to make sure it’s a healthy and filling snack, not a bag of chips and candy. And while you’re at it, drink a glass of water to make sure you are hydrated.

With all of the tasks and roles a mother is responsible for, it is so necessary to take time for yourself to recharge and feel good. Keep it easy and try one of these five simple ways to take a mom break.
