Top Sydney Attractions to Escape the Bustling CBD
Posted: May 27, 2022
We all love the vibrant energy Sydney exudes and the constant buzz of the Central Business District but at times we crave for some peace and quietness. If you’ve felt the same, wanted to escape the buslings of the city but dreads long drives, you’re not alone. In my four years spent in Sydney, what impresses me the most is the fact that you don't need to travel far in order to experience tranquillity. In fact, there are many spots in the city– some hidden, some within a short travelling distance and some right in front of your noses!
Cruise Dinner in Sydney Harbour
Night times are special times in our harbour city and even though Sydney is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, it also offers pockets of spaces for rejuvenation. It’s a whole different scene once the sun sets and the city lights take over. To admire it from a unique perspective is therapy to say the least. Even though you can do this from numerous vantage points, the go-to option for many is the popular Sydney Harbour Cruise with dinner. Apart from getting the chance to marvel at the luminous shining skies of the city you also get to enjoy close-up views of the iconic harbour landmarks, the Opera House and Harbour bridge, among other attractions. The scenic night vistas you witness onboard these magnificent vessels are second to none and the best part is that you can enjoy them while savouring a lip-smacking dinner. You can even pair them with drinks and other beverages that can be purchased from the fully licensed bar on board! Can’t get any better right?! Start booking!
MacCallum Pool
Cremorne Point Reserve houses the ultimate hidden gem on this list, the MacCallum Pool. Originally a rock pool created by the hands of a few local residents as a rock swimming hole, the pool is now a popular swimming spot. It is not often you can find a pool like this near the harbour where you can enjoy the ferries and yachts simply glide past you. Take a dip in this filtered harbour water and soak in all the sweeping views from Watsons Bay to the Harbour Bridge. Shaded by massive trees, this secret pool is a great spot to relax, sunbathe or just laze around on a summer day. There is also a small sheltered joint near the pool for kids, making it also a family spot. If you're up for it, you can even take the stroll to Cremorne Point along the walking trail, which has some exquisite views on the way.
Centennial Park
Although this park, located only 10 minutes away from the city, is a famous spot for families to take part in numerous fun activities, one can also enjoy valuable ‘peace’ time here. Short Pony rides are a favourite attraction here, especially among kids, so you might come across a few. For those looking to simply relax, you can find boundless spaces around the park under the shades of over 15,000 well-maintained trees! The gorgeous lawns, ponds, flower beds and statues serve as the perfect backdrop for a quiet time out alone. Take in the fresh air, read a book under a tree or enjoy a picnic with your friends or family. You can even bring along bread or other food items to feed the many ducks, swans or birds!
Other Options
If you thought that’s all of it, think again! It’s far from over! Wedding Cake Rock, Burrows Park, Bardwell Valley Parklands, Royal Botanic Gardens, Wattamolla Beach, Wendy’s Secret garden, the Grounds of Alexandria, the list goes on!
