Kedarnath Yatra can be described as one of India's holy pilgrimages. Kedarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located at 3583ft above sea level in Uttarakhand. Kedarnath forms part of the Panch Kedar, Char Dhams. It is also the only leg of the pilgrimage which begins in an area far from high peaks. Millions of pilgrims arrive at Kedarnath Dham each year via Delhi. Delhi has good connections to the major cities and towns of Uttarakhand. You can get to Kedarnath from Delhi by train or road. I will be sharing the best route to Kedarnath via Delhi in this article.

  • By road: Rishikesh/ Haridwar serves as the essential starting point on the road to Kedarnath. During the summer pilgrim season, buses transport pilgrims to Kedarnath via Haridwar/ Rishikesh. Gaurikund, near the National Highway 109, is the nearest place to Kedarnath Temple. Uttarakhand Transport Corporation offers a direct bus route from Delhi to Gaurikund. Inter-state buses also run around Gaurikund. These buses connect to Srinagar Rudraprayag Rishikesh Haryana, Srinagar Rudraprayag Rishikesh, and Srinagar. Pilgrims could find regular buses to Gaurikund early in the morning. You must first travel to Rishikesh and Haridwar to get a taxi or bus to Kedarnath.
  • By Train: Kedarnath is not served by a train. Rishikesh (located approximately 210 kilometers away from Gaurikund) is the nearest station. Rishikesh railway station, which has daily trains, is well connected with almost all major cities of India. There are buses and taxis available from the railway station to Gaurikund. From Gauri Kund to Kedarnath, there is a 16-kilometer climb. This can be done by horse, on foot, or via helicopter.
  • By air: A one-hour flight can be taken from Delhi to Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun, which is approximately 239km from Kedarnath. Once you reach Dehradun, you will be able to rent a cab, hire a taxi, and board a bus to Rishikesh. This will allow you to start your journey toward Kedarnath. Delhi is the closest international air terminal. The Uttarakhand government also offers a Heli charter service. You will be taken directly to Kedarnath if you reserve the charter early.
