This article talks at great length about the advantages that one can expect from the use of CLI. It has over the years helped many big and medium sized firms

Before exploring why CLI should be used, let’s briefly comprehend what it is actually. A command line interface or CLI is a means used for interacting with a computer program. In this process the user or client will issue commands that are in the form of command lines or text lines. This is all done to make things simpler and easier for people. The system was introduced as a Device Management Framework as well.

This, in fact, was the primary mode of interacting till the video terminal display was introduced. And people actually could communicate pretty easily with one another. However, even when the personal computers were introduced it was used in systems that included MS-DOS, Apple DOS and CP/M. This kind of an interface is implemented usually along with a command line shell.

The systems nowadays prefer using a GUI or graphical user interfaces. On the other the CLI is preferred by more advanced users. This is due to the fact that the CLI Device Management systems offer more powerful and concise ways of controlling the OS or the program; thus making the system run smoothly without any issue at all.

However, in spite of the development in the field of network management technologies, there are still several systems in the network that make use CLI in order to manage them. This has helped them to evolve as one of the most widely used Device Management Framework across the globe. Once the IP networks and the internet were popularized, the CLI based interfaces were offered as serial links, transport protocols and TCP. It is due to this reason that the CLI device management frameworks are considered to be flexible. Therefore, they can be used even from a remote terminal in order to manage a device. And over the years, it has been put to good use by engineers in big and medium sized firms.

Advantages of CLI:

Users can modify the configuration settings without any hassle at all

Users can begin, stop or suspend any kind of services in the network operation at ease.

A device in network, database information, and component can be created, deleted or updated.

A running service on a network device can be controlled and managed.

The properties of any component or network device can also be viewed at all time.

In addition, due to the presence of a character key base or text string base, the CLI is user friendly as well.
