Creating the Perfect Guest Room
Posted: Nov 30, 2014
It is the holiday season, which means plenty of time spent with family and friends. Hosting guests for the holidays can bet stressful, especially if you are not prepared for guests. If your home has the space, creating a guest room that is always prepared for visitors is one way to decrease the stress this holiday season. Putting a guest room together does not have to be time consuming or expensive, and it is a sure way to convince your guests to return in the future once their stay is over…if you want them to that is.
Give your guests space
While it is nice to use extra rooms or guest rooms for more storage space, a guest room should have an empty closet and empty dresser drawers so visitors who are staying for more than a day or two can unpack their suitcases and have space for their belongings without the worry of blending them with the items you are storing in the room. Giving your guests the opportunity to unpack and stay a while by simply giving them the space to do so in the guest room will create a lasting welcoming vibe in your home, and again, costs you nothing. If you are struggling for space, store items in another room until your guests are gone, and then move them back into the guest room. Do not forget to leave some hangers in the closet so guests can hang their clothes as well!
All about comfort
When hosting guests, you obviously want them to feel comfortable in your home. When creating a guest room, ask yourself what makes you the most comfortable when you are away from home, and incorporate some of those ideas to your own guest room such as lighting. Make sure the lighting in the room can be adjusted to the comfort of your visitors. If you enjoy a lot of natural light coming from the windows, make sure there is a window in the guest room (preferably one with a view)! Along with the windows, it is a good idea to install blackout curtains just in case your guests like the room dark, especially in the morning when they are still trying to sleep. Stock the closet with clean blankets and pillows so your guests can be as comfortable as possible no matter the temperature of the home. If you want to really impress your guests, leave a new set of cozy slippers at the end of the bed!
Go the extra mile
You probably do not think of giving your Wi-Fi password to your guests, but it is actually a valuable piece of information these days since most of us live by our smartphones and tablets. Instead of remembering to tell your guests the password, print a cute welcome sign with the Wi-Fi password on it, frame it and place it on the bedside table. Going the extra mile lets your guests know they are always welcome!
