A Bachelor Party Weekend at Jaco Beach, Costa Rica!

Summer just around the corner, love in the air, my buddy Steve finally popped the question. After receiving that long-anticipated "yes", the boys and I burst in on them in the over-crowded, over-priced restaurant, and like the savages we are, lifted him up as a singular mob and chanted our way out of the venue, out into the street and away toward our corner bar. Steve’s getting married, for us, meant a Bachelor Party – and he would be the first one out of the group to get hitched, so it was a big deal. Over copious celebratory drinks and long lines of chants and hollers, finally, we started talking about and planning the upcoming Bachelor Party. Vegas, Miami, Cancun? We thought long and hard, discussed options, dates – and finally all agreed on our destination. Costa Rica!

Seven o’clock in the morning we walked into the airport, suitcases in hand, already singing and chanting – excited out of our minds. The flight resulted only to induce our cheer, as we toasted to the weekend, to the Bachelor Party and to Costa Rica with our plastic glasses full of booze. After a five-hour flight, which admittedly passed really quickly, we landed in San Jose, Costa Rica – a whole different world, which seemed a world away from home.

Having purchased a bottle of tequila at the duty free, all of us already buzzed, we made our way out of the airport into the warm, sunny Costa Rican afternoon. We were greeted and received by our personal Concierge assigned to us by the agency we had booked for our trip, and she led us to the Air-Conditioned van, a Mercedes Benz Sprinter, in which we popped open the tequila and began the celebration. It was an hour ride to our destination, to our very own Tropical Paradise – Jaco Beach, Costa Rica.

Beautiful – a total Tropical Paradise. The moment we stepped off the van and onto the streets of Jaco Beach, we knew the party had already started. While our Concierge took care of details regarding our accommodations and itinerary for the weekend, we walked into town in the hot sun and in search of a cold beer. Enter, Imperial – the national beer of Costa Rica. We walked onto the beach, beers in hand, sat in the shade under a series of palm trees, and took everything in – the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore, the bright blue waters of the Pacific extending limitlessly into the horizon, our feet in the the crisp golden sand, surrounded by lush green jungle to all sides. After having had the chance to cool down, we made our way to the house we had rented out for this weekend.

In complete and utter awe, we stood outside of the Vacation Rental – a mansion, of sorts – huge, luxurious – beachside, with an outdoor pool facing the beach and the ocean. As we walked in, we were greeted by our private Chefs, Bartenders and DJ – oh boy, were we ready for a cocktail and lunch – but before all that, a dip in the pool! While we splashed around like teenagers in the pool, the DJ started playing, the Bartenders made us Mojitos and the Chefs fired up the grill to cook us burgers which we had chosen as our first meal here. By 2PM, adequately liquored up and properly sun-struck, the party was well on its way. Cocktails, beers, shots, dancing, burgers – the hours went on as if nothing. Before we knew it, the sun had begun to set, for which we went out to the beach – we had been told that the sunset here at Jaco Beach was spectacular. The sky taking on a dozen colors and tones, the sun finally set, and we made our way out to our first stop to begin the evening. Loud music on, the bar crowded, we entered El Point where we had some celebratory tequila shots with our Frozen Margaritas, and decided to mingle with the locals. We met a group of local girls there, and upon their recommendation, decided to go to a seafood restaurant close by for dinner. El Hicaco, it was called; a beautiful, half-fancy, half-rustic looking place on the beach. The food was amazing – I had the Tuna Steak with Crispy Plantain, and with full bellies we were ready to head into the night, ready to party! The town was alive with lights, sounds and partying; turns out that Jaco Beach has quite the vibrant nightlife with music booming from every bar and club on the main street. We went to a few bars first, led by the girls, and then ended up at a nightclub called Republik which was awesome. We partied until the morning light, energies depleted but attitudes on point. What a night!

The next morning, we woke up early, in spite of the crazy night of partying we had survived – but we were due to take a field trip into nature and discover all the awesome things to do in Jaco Beach and its surroundings. We went rafting in a crazy river first thing; adrenaline pumping through our veins and the hangovers remedied, we were ready for more. We moved onto ATVs which we rode into the rainforest until we reached a waterfall – here we rappelled down the waterfall and totally soaked, took a swim afterward. It was the perfect way to begin our day! We went back into town, and straight to the beach for some sunshine and rest. Naturally, cold beers were introduced, which turned into Daiquiris and before long it was lunch time. We went to a restaurant called El Malecon where we had some cocktails followed by some fried seafood – delicious! Newly energized, we headed back to the beach to meet with the girls from last night. Immediately we made plans, and invited them over to our Villa in the evening for dinner, drinks and some good, old-fashioned partying. By 7PM we were all dancing by the pool, drinks in hand, the echoing sounds of laughter and music in the air, as well as the smell of meat and fish being grilled. We ate, we drank and we partied until the sunrise – it was a great way to end our weekend here at Jaco Beach!

Our flight back home was easy – we were too tired to be bummed out about leaving, and besides, it had been such an unbelievable blast, that we were still overwhelmed and overtaken with endorphins. It was a short getaway, no doubt, but a necessary one – Steve would be the first one to get married and that simply had to be celebrated. I most definitely recommend Jaco Beach as a Bachelor Party destination – so much fun! Pura Vida, Costa Rica!
