Posted: Jul 19, 2022
Not everyone can be a morning person and for those that take the struggle bus in the morning, you are not alone. But, from the time that you wake up to the time that your day "starts" is the most important time of your day. The morning sets your intentions and tone for the day. Do you want to be scrambling to get out the door or do you want to be ready for the tasks ahead?
"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive, to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." – Marcus Aurelius
Improving your mood in the morning is the ultimate way to have a good day. Now, we know that most of us do not naturally wake up in a state of happiness, so we’ll have to work on it a little, but luckily a little goes a long way.
Try these 5 simple ways to boost your mood in the morning:
Wake up with the alarm clock
Easier said than done sometimes, but you will noticeably feel better and more energized if you wake up on the first alarm. Personally, I feel more groggy after I’ve hit snooze a few times.
Your body will tune into the set time and after some consistency, be ready to wake up even before the alarm goes off!

Drink a glass of water
The first thing you should do when you wake up is drink a glass of water. Studies show that drinking a glass of water in the morning can help with weight loss, improve your skin, bodily functions, mental health and boost your mood! Such a simple action with a big impact. If you have a hard time remembering to reach for the water first, add a glass by your bedside table, bathroom sink or in front of your coffee maker (I do this). Adding lemon to your water can also be helpful.
Sunshine
Being in the sunshine will always be my number one energy booster, so open the curtains and let the light in! "Sunlight helps boost a chemical in your brain called serotonin, and that can give you more energy and help keep you calm, positive, and focused."
Move your body
Waking up your body with physicality can be as light or as intense as you want it to be aka you don’t have to run 10 miles to feel better in the morning. A slow walk or a few minutes stretching can also do the trick. Whatever physical movement you enjoy most is what you should incorporate into your morning routine.
Morning Routine
And speaking of a routine, it’s best you have one for the morning! A morning routine allows you to put all of your favorite mood boosting activities in a structured, timely schedule so you can set the tone for the day properly. A routine can be as simple as one or two things from the list above!
