What a year we’ve had so far! 2022 has brought back some balance into our lives but it’s almost time to say goodbye and keep the positive momentum going as we move towards New Year's Eve (NYE). 2023 is dawning upon us and it’s time to ring in the New Year at some of the best destinations across the globe. I’ve been travelling around the world for some time now and have attended NYE in eight countries, some of them alone, some of them with my favourite bunch of people. Whether it’s a night filled with glitz and glam, a cosy night outdoors, a family-friendly daytime party, or an adventurous one, here are a few suggestions for you to consider.

New Year’s Eve cruises, Sydney

Alright I’ll keep it a buck with you, Sydney has given me one of the, if not the best NYE in recent times. Being one of the prettiest places on the entire planet, the city invites millions of revellers every year on the last day of the year. The major drawcard of the whole event is the NYE firework show that goes off at 9pm and midnight. My best friend, who is a native, had already informed me about the overwhelming crowd and about the best place to witness the extravagant celebrations. We decided to take to the waters onboard a New Year’s Eve dinner cruise and get an exclusive view of the festivities and boy was I surprised! The cruises exceeded all my expectations– the food was exceptional, the drinks unmatched and the views? Spectacular. We boarded the multi-million dollar catamaran and from its three expansive outer decks, we got to enjoy a crowd-free experience, while still enjoying the best of the fireworks display! Suffice to say, we had the time of our lives.

Explore Sri Lanka

What struck me the most about the land of serendipity is that it actually has it all. This gem of an island on the Indian Ocean boasts one of the largest tea plantations in the world, an immense variety of animals, green hills, unspoiled beaches, magical landscapes, ancient ruins and a wide range of spicy food! Spending the last few days of the year on this pearl of the Indian Ocean turned out to be one of the best choices in my entire life. The time I spent here was action-packed to say the least. We traversed our way through the land; by rafts, tuk-tuks, swimming, surfing, hiking, train rides and more, exploring the hidden gems and amazing nature. But that’s not all, we also spent New Year’s Eve with the other friends of the land–elephants, leopards, crocs and other exciting creatures!

Gems of Uganda

Uganda, or the pearl of Africa, was yet another destination where as soon as I set foot in, I was inclined towards the wilderness and ‘nature’ side of the nation. This vast country has the largest freshwater lake on the continent, the strongest waterfall, the most number of mountain gorillas and primates, a rich culture and a welcoming hospitality. Number one on my wishlist when I made Uganda my travel destination for NYE, was to trek in the rainforests to see the mountain gorillas and other primates in their natural habitat. It was the ultimate nature experience to do on New Year’s Eve. Although you could explore the capital city of Kampala and its culture, row on the famous lakes, or go on a mountain safari, the gorilla trek was our piece de resistance. Looking back, it was all epic times in Uganda, safe to say this could well be your next NYE destination!
