It takes a village to raise our kids and educators have a huge impact on their students each year. Teachers instruct, coach, cheer on, and comfort our kids daily. And this is just the tip of the many responsibilities an educator has.

How do we show teachers that all their hard work does not go unnoticed? How do we purposefully display gratitude to our teachers in a meaningful way? Here are 5 easy ways you can show any teacher how much you appreciate them this year.

  1. Write your kiddo’s teacher a quick note or email thanking them for their patience, kindness, and daily diligent work. Did your child recently learn a new skill? Or maybe she told you how the teacher helped her solve a problem with a friend? Maybe your child seems to be extra happy everyday when he comes home. Mention this in your note. Be specific in your note or email whenever possible about the impact your teacher is making. Consider having your child write a note when they have learned something new or the teacher has gone above and beyond to help them in some way. A thank you note is the easiest way to show appreciation.

  1. Give a DIY teacher survival kit. This is a great and easy gift! Supply the teacher in your life with a few necessities, classroom and personal supplies to make their school year easier. Grab a bag and get started on your kit. Check out how to easily put your own teacher survival kit together here with a few easy steps. A bonus printable tag is included!

  1. Find out what their favorite drink or snack is and deliver it to their classroom door. This is another easy way to say thank you! Teachers barely have time to take care of themselves during a busy school day. A favorite drink or snack can give anyone a boost- especially if it includes caffeine or chocolate!

  1. Send an email to the school’s administrator or principal highlighting positives about your child’s teacher that you have noticed during the school year. Chances are the principal will relay the message to the teacher. It feels great to be noticed and told you are doing a good job by an administrator.

  1. Get involved! Ask how you can help or volunteer in the classroom. Teachers always need extra hands. Most will gladly accept any offer of help, whether it’s for making paper copies or even working with a struggling student. Does your school building allow you to help cover recess duty? Can you take a few hours off to help with a special classroom activity or field trip? Ask what you can do to help and then continue to look for ways you can get involved during the year.

We cannot thank teachers enough for all they do. This year, I challenge you to be purposeful about using some of these easy ways to show your gratitude and appreciation. Continue this habit of gratitude each year!
