Hot Air Balloon Rides in Scottsdale

It’s rare to find someone who doesn’t wish they could fly. Not in an airplane, zooming across the sky at speeds that would do serious damage to a nice hairdo, but a gentle flight, floating along on the air currents like a bird.

One of the great things about taking a Hot Air Balloon Ride in Scottsdale is the fact you can have this magical adventure just about any day. With an average of 296 sunny days per year, scheduling your ride couldn’t be easier.

The majority of balloon rides, especially in the summer months, begin at or around dawn to take advantage of the cooler atmosphere. An added bonus to this is the spectacular view you will enjoy of the sun rising up from behind the peaks of the McDowell Mountains.

As the balloon inflates, the pilot will give instructions that must be followed. Based on the weight of each passenger, you will be told where to stand in the basket. This is where you must remain unless the pilot tells you to move. Keeping the weight evenly distributed in the basket is essential to having a safe flight.

Once everyone has boarded, it’s time to fly. The pilot will use the gas burner to inject additional hot air into the balloon envelope, and up you go. If you are afraid of heights, this is probably not the best time to look down while the ground appears to drop away, but there is plenty to look at all around.

Since hot air balloons can’t actually be steered, the direction and speed of your flight can vary, even when you leave from the same location multiple times. The pilot has control over up and down, but the winds and currents have control over everything else.

Hot air balloon rides typically last between 3 and 4 hours. Floating over the desert in complete silence, with an unobstructed view, is a magical experience that shouldn’t be missed. It’s a feast for your soul, and your camera.

Eventually, the ride must end. As the basket touches down, far away from where you started, it may bounce for a bit. This is completely normal and nothing to worry about. Once it comes to a complete stop, you are allowed to get out, the balloon will begin to deflate, and you’ll start wondering when you can take your next adventure.
