The first time I visited Sydney back in 2012, I spent most of my time on the beaches, mostly at Manly. It was the highlight of my trip and all I wanted was to just relax. I have always heard of how wonderful and gorgeous Sydney was and it was true. I was allured by the massive harbour, the splendid botanical gardens, the awe-inspiring shoreline, and beaches. Over the course of time, I made Sydney my go-to destination to enjoy peace of mind, unravelling its beauty more and more with each visit. Safe to say, it’s like no other city. If you're wondering what to do on your next trip, wonder no more. Check out some of my favourite attractions that are quintessentially Sydney.

Lunch cruises on Sydney Harbour

The best part about Sydney is definitely its unrivalled beauty. The perfect coalescence of spectacular natural landscapes and a glorious city skyline makes it one of the prettiest cities on the planet. To enjoy this iconic view, the ideal option would be the famous lunch cruises on Sydney Harbour. Not only will you get to witness some of the best sights along the harbourfront but you can also indulge in a sumptuous lunch. Capture amazing snaps of epic attractions including the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Fort Denison, Luna Park, and much more right from your boat. A Sydney Harbour cruise with lunch is a great way to kickstart your day out exploring the Emerald City, making it number one on many travellers itinerary.

Explore the museums

Like all the incredible cities on the planet, Sydney has its fair share of museums to entertain its residents and visitors. Everything between art museums, history museums, galleries and museums of the weird, you can easily find here. And the best part? All these public galleries and museums are free, thanks to Australia’s commonwealth past. One of my favourite museums here is the Sydney Living Museum, set in the old convict barracks of Hyde Park. With cutting-edge technologies and traditional portayings, it does an exceptional job of depicting the colonial life in Sydney, using the tales of the original settlers, artefacts, historical information and recreations! It never fails to amaze me, although it’s not free. You can also check out other museums including the Art Gallery of NSW, Australian Museum, The Rocks Discovery Museum, White Rabbit Gallery and Museum of Contemporary Art.

Wine tasting in Hunter Valley

North Sydney is one of the premier wine regions of the nation. Although wine tasting won’t be easy on your budget, it is another excuse to get out of the city, enjoy the countryside and do something other than laying on the beach. Hunter Valley has plenty of incredible wineries that produce some of the finest red wines on the globe. Although you can jump in on the many guided tours that take off from the city, going solo is the best option. If you own a car, you can base yourself in Newcastle or Cessnock, but for that extra dose of the country, you can book out a secluded cabin or home on Airbnb, making it an ideal activity for families as well as couples.

Get wild at King’s Cross

If you're looking to get your inner party animal out on the cheap, then all you need to do is head to King’s Cross. The beer here is inexpensive, and most travellers and locals party till late - you can find all backpackers and students going crazy, drinking and dancing. For a more low-key party scene you can check out the nightlife in Manly, The Rocks or the Central Business DIstrict, although it can get a little exxy.
