While PDFs are ideal for making accurate digital copies of paper documents, you can also create a PDF from a regular Word document.

If you want to save a Word document as a PDF, you can use the Microsoft Word desktop app or Word for the Web. This is how.

Save a document as a PDF

In most versions of Microsoft Word, you can save the Word document straight to a Pdf file type by following the steps below.

  1. Open an existing Word document or start a new one.
  2. At the top-left of the Word program window, click the File tab or menu option.
  3. In the menu, select the Save As option.
  4. Click the Browse button or option on the Save As a window to select a location on your computer to save the file.
  5. Select Save as type from the drop-down arrow.
  6. Choose PDF (*.pdf) from the drop-down menu.
  7. To customize your PDF, click the Options button.
  8. When finished, click OK.
  9. Then click Save.
  10. The PDF file you saved will open in your default PDF viewer.

  1. Go to Word Web
  2. Sign up for free by clicking the button.
  3. Enter your email address and a strong password.
  4. To verify your email or phone number, enter the code.
  5. After signing in, select Word from the left apps menu.
  6. Click Upload on the right side.
  7. Discover the Word document and press the Open button.
  8. When your document opens in Word online, go to the top left and select File.
  9. Choose Save as>. Save as a PDF.
  10. A PDF file of this saved document is downloaded to your computer.
