It’s spooky season! This time of year is my absolute favorite–cooler weather, football, candles, cardigans and HALLOWEEN! Halloween is a frightfully fun holiday because it’s entertaining and exciting. Maybe you enjoy the less haunting activities of fall like the pumpkin patch, corn maze, baking and cozy nights in. Or maybe you’re a little witchy and like the more frightful activities, especially the ones that might end with a BOO!

If it’s the ladder and you enjoy to scare and be scared then check out these 5 ways to add scary fun to your holiday season.

  1. Decorate

Decorating your house, front porch, or even your car (think trunk-or-treat) is a classic way to amp up the scary theme of the haunted holiday. When I was younger, one of my favorite nights trick or treating was when we stopped at a neighbor's house who turned their garage into a scary obstacle course! So feel free to go big and express your creativity. Here are some creepy fun ideas to try this year:

  • Fog machine

  • Candelabras

  • Floating witches hats

  • Skeletons crawling up your house

  • Anything with spiders

  • Themed: Hocus Pocus, It., zombies, etc.

Just remember that this holiday is also for kids so make sure it’s not gory or sinister.

  1. Visit a Haunted House

Haunted houses are not for the faint at heart. Grab your friends (don’t let go) and discover some truly terrifying displays of scary. Check your local area for the best haunted houses and remember that it’s not real, it’s all just pretend.

If you can’t find any haunted houses you can always create your own!

  1. Read Halloween Books

Classic or creepy new Halloween books are a simple and spine-tingling way to add some scare! To go the extra mile, set the tone and read in the dark with a flashlight or late at night. Read aloud to your friends or spook yourself by reading alone.

Reading Halloween books is great for all ages as well! Check out this big list of Halloween Books for kids to add not-too-scary fun: Fun Kids Halloween Books.

  1. Spooky Outing

The fall is the perfect time to get together with friends and book a spine-chilling ghost tour or try a local cemetery tour. If you have the time and money, a weekend getaway to the most haunted areas can be frightening fun! Even a hike in the dark (do not go alone), especially after watching a scary movie can make everyone extra jumpy.

  1. Scary Movie Marathon

Buckle in for a night of hair-raising fun with friends as you creep yourselves out while watching scary movies. Make an evening out of it–make spooky foods, brew up some witchy cocktails, turn off the lights and lock the doors.

Your chilling watch list could include: The Cabin in the Woods, The Conjuring, IT, The Ring, Signs, A Nightmare on Elm Street.

And if you’re wanting to do a scary movie marathon with little ones, check out these movies: The Addams Family, Hotel Transylvania, Frankenweenie, Monster House, Goosebumps, Coraline, Beetlejuice.

The chilly air and long dark nights of fall make it the perfect backdrop to have some in-good-spirits scary fun! Enjoy these 5 ways to scare your friends (and yourself) this fall season.
