India is home to some of the most unique flora and fauna, because of its geographical location. When I think of the Top 10 Wildlife Sanctuaries of India the first thing that comes to mind is experiencing nature at its best. There are some of the most world-famous wildlife sanctuaries in India. Rare and exotic species such as the Asiatic lion, Bengal Tiger, snow leopard, one-horned rhinoceros, and many more you can spot here. There are around 565 existing total wildlife sanctuaries in India. Mayur Eshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is the smallest Wildlife Sanctuary in India. It is around 70km from Pune"
Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand
Being named after one of the most famous wildlife story writers, Jim Corbett National Park is one of the oldest and best national parks in India established in 1936. Located at the foothills of the Nainital district of Uttrakhand. The Corbett National Park is home to the great Bengal Tigers (Panthera tigris Tigris). A total number of 252 tigers now. The best time to visit Jim Corbett National Park is in the winter (November to June) as in the Monsoon season park remains closed. There is a total of 488 different species of plants and 586 species of resident and migratory birds have been recorded here in the park. The dense wilderness of the park attracts tourists from all over the world. It has also been featured in many wildlife documentaries to raise awareness towards the existence of Bengal Tigers.
The distance from Delhi to Jim Corbett national park is around 250 km and approx. 7 hours journey by car. The nearest Railway station is Ramnagar around 12 km from Park and you can take a taxi from here to Park.
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, KerelaThis is the only national park in the Western Ghats of Kerala, Southern India that has an artificial lake flowing through the forests. The Periyar Wildlife sanctuary (also known as Thekkady) is located near the Evergreen Hills of the Western Ghats and is also one of the Tiger Reserves in India. The visitors can view the magnificent beasts of this forest while boating in Periyar Lake. One can also see animals such as Elephants, Deers, Langurs, and many more.
It is famous for its Tigers and elephant reserve forest. The best time to visit the sanctuary is September to April. There are around 35 species of animals,266 species of birds, and 45 species of reptiles 800 Elephants in the Park. The nearest airport is the Madurai airport and which is around 14 km from Periyar and another nearby airport is Cochin International airport in Kochi.
