"Your goals are the road maps that guide you and show you what is possible for your life." –Les Brown

Setting goals helps you focus on what you want in life, creating new behaviors and keeping you motivated. The importance of goals is immeasurable, but what happens when you’re not sure what your specific life goals are? Here are 5 ways to help you get clear on your life goals:

  1. Thought Provoking Questions

How do you know where you want to be in life without asking yourself some deep, thought provoking questions? This is a great starting point as it helps determine where you are and where you want to be. Not sure what questions to even ask? Check these deep thought provoking life questions to get you started.

"A goal should scare you a little and excite you a lot." –Joe Vitale

  1. Journaling

There are so many benefits to journaling, including helping you get clear on your life goals. Journaling allows you to put down your thoughts, hopes, dreams, fears, etc on paper. When you write it down it’s the start of putting action to your words. And you can’t accomplish your goals unless you’re willing to take action.

"You get what you focus on so focus on what you want."

  1. Voice Them

Shout your goals from the rooftops! Or if that’s too out there, talk to your best friend, partner, mom etc about your goals. When you share your goals with someone else you 1. increase the likelihood that you’ll complete them, but 2. Be able to brainstorm and get insight from others.

"The same voice that says ‘give up’ can also be trained to say ‘keep going’."

  1. Know Your "Why"

Your "why" is the meaning and purpose behind your goal. When you have a "why" then you’ll have a more clear vision of your goals and the actionable steps you need to take to achieve them. For example, ‘I want to work from home so I can create my own schedule and pick my kids up from school.’ The goal is to work from home. The "why "is flexibility and family time.

"Find your why and you’ll find your way." –John C. Maxwell

  1. Break It Down

If your goal(s) seem too daunting to ever realistically achieve, try breaking it into smaller goals. This will help you create timelines and actionable steps for each small goal that will lead you to your big goal without feeling overwhelming.

"You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream." –C.S Lewis

Once you’ve established what your clear life goals are, use these tips to help you stay motivated and achieve your goals:

  1. Create deadlines

  2. Be realistic

  3. Track your goals

  4. Failure is a lesson, not the end

Getting clear on your life goals can and will make all the difference! Know that just by getting started, you’re making an impact on your future. So be patient, be kind and get going!

"Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible." –Tony Robbins
