Best Tips For Decluttering Your Mind

Posted: Dec 06, 2022

Do you feel like you're running non-stop during the day, only to fall in bed at night exhausted and spent? Well, you are not alone. Most people feel this way in our fast paced modern world. The problem is that when we live like this our minds become cluttered. We start to focus on, "What's next? What's next?" This is not great for our mental or emotional health. But, where do we start decluttering our minds and slowing down?
The good news is that there are some tried and true methods of decluttering your mind that have worked for thousands of years to help people find peace, quiet, and clarity on a daily basis. You don't need to be a Yogi in order to practice these easy habits, either. Anyone can clear out their mind and make more room for peace.
Get Up Earlier
This is often the first step to finding a little calm in your day. When you roll straight out of bed and start meeting the demands of the day, you will quickly find yourself all used up and stressed. The old saying is that you can't pour from an empty cup. Start thinking of the early morning as your opportunity to fill your cup.
Filling your cup will look different for everyone. So, take some time to think of what things you could do each morning that would make you feel better prepared to meet your day. Here are some examples that many people use:
Gentle morning movements such as walking or yoga
Journaling
Prayer/meditation
Daily goal setting
Reading/learning a new thing

Move Your Body
Lack of exercise will have a huge impact on your mental health. In our society, we focus heavily on exercise as a way to lose weight. When exercise is only associated with weight loss, we miss out on so many of the other benefits. Exercise is crucial to our daily functioning, whether we need to lose weight or not.
When you exercise, your brain chemistry is changed temporarily. Brain chemicals that are not always present suddenly flood into your brain, such as endorphins. These happy brain chemicals fight pain, lift your mood, and help you deal with stress.
Not only does your brain benefit, but your heart and lungs will also function better for several hours after exercise, causing better blood and oxygen flow, which helps keep your mind clear and your focus tight.

Don't Pick Up What Doesn't Belong To You
You may think this is advice to give a child, but adults need this too. Some of the stress and mental clutter that we deal with on a regular basis is a result of picking up things that do not belong to us. By this, I mean picking up responsibilities, problems, and anxiety that are not even ours to carry. It is very important that you learn to identify what is yours and what is rightfully someone else's.
You are not obligated to pick up other people's responsibilities, problems, or stress. When you come up against something, ask yourself, "Is this mine to pick up? Or does this belong to someone else?" This can dramatically help to declutter your mind and bring more peace into your life.
