A well trained employee is truly an asset to a company or an organisation. That’s why many of the larger companies invest in periodic training for their staff. However, smaller employers often don’t have the resources to do this. When it comes to IT training, you can make yourself invaluable to a potential employer, and give yourself an edge in the market.

Information Technology or IT, as it is popularly referred to, has taken center stage in the world’s economy today. With rapid advances in technology happening on a daily basis, every sector of the economy is evolving into more automated and technologically advanced entities.

So, why should you pursue IT training, as opposed to training in some other area? Businesses are, at an ever increasing rate, adding more tech equipment to the daily operation of the company. Unfortunately, most business owners themselves don’t know anything about the technology in their own offices. You don’t have to become a computer expert, and you certainly aren’t likely to become a pro at networking computers, but you can learn how to take care of everyday operations. While most employers hire IT consultants, you can be the person onsite to can install the new software, printers, and copiers.

IT training is the surest and easiest way to remain relevant in today’s economy as well as increase one’s marketability. The evolution of job descriptions and competencies calls for the evolution of the employee as well. The nature of technology predetermines the constant need to upgrade one’s skills. IT training is the answer to keeping up with changing times. Traditional education has today become more of a foundational system rather than a relevant-skills kind of system.

IT training includes training in hardware and software. Hardware training includes packages such as the N+ package from CISCO amongst others. Software training is the broadest as it embraces the whole spectrum of software design, planning, development, production, implementation, support and management. This training is easily available online or offline as short, affordable modules that one can undertake and finish in 6 months to a year. Some even take a few weeks to complete.

If your office is getting new software, get some training with it. If you don’t have a job yet, find out what software programs are the most commonly used, and get training in those methods. Find out, too, how to run virus scans on the office computers. You may be able to discern whether the office computer systems are being affected by a virus, spyware, or a Trojan horse program. The ability to protect your boss’s computer network makes you far more attractive to a potential employer. When you sign up for classes on a new software program, you may actually find yourself with a job, as you learn the program. Some people actually get recruited as software testers, and if you have an aptitude for this, you may find yourself employed.
