What is fighting red eye?A red-eye flight is a flight that departs in the evening or at night, and arrives at its final destination during the day (usually in the morning). Basically, this is what happens when you take off during the time you would normally go to sleep. Most Red Eye flights depart late at night around 9:00 PM and arrive early in the morning around 5 or 6 AM.
The term "red-eye" arose due to the drowsiness of the passengers who would be the last to disembark from the plane. Not everyone is able to sleep on airplanes, and those who can can't stand their red, tired, dry eyes.

For example: from Los Angeles to New York or from New York to Europe. Red-eye cruises usually last at least four hours, but are often closer to six hours or more. How to prepare for a red-eye flight?Red Eye cruises are quieter than normal daytime routes, but they are still very noisy which makes sleeping difficult. However, there are a few things you can do to help make it more comfortable:
- Dress warm and comfortable: Forget about looking cool on the plane, you'll want to wear something warm and comfortable on a Red Eye flight. If you're concerned about looks, pack an extra outfit in your handbag for a final change. But no one wants to spend the night trying to sleep in jeans and a blouse or T-shirt. Loose clothing is your best bet.
- Consider bringing an extra blanket or scarf: Blankets and pillows are provided on some (but not all) Red Eye flights, so be sure to check ahead. Keep in mind that they can be quite flimsy, so bring a few if you like warmth while you sleep.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol: Don't drink coffee, alcohol or caffeinated beverages before your flight. This will make it difficult for you to sleep.
- Book a window seat: Sure, you won't get much of a view when flying at night, but a window seat is unlikely to bother you.
