When you’ve had a long day (week/month/year) you want to go home, relax and treat yourself to something special. I tend to always use something food related like chocolate or wine, which is not always a bad thing, but can lead to some habits I wouldn’t mind breaking. When I’ve had a really healthy day and ruin it at the end I don’t usually feel like I’m treating myself but ruining what I’ve worked for the whole day.

Instead of reaching for the 500 calorie ice cream tub or binge watching Netflix for the rest of the night, try these 5 fun ways to pamper yourself without sabotaging your goals.

  1. Mani/Pedi

Every woman feels like a new woman when they’ve had their nails done! For me, it’s a special treat because I don’t get my nails done often. Even if you do, remember to enjoy the time relaxing and feeling pampered while you’re there instead of another appointment. And if money is tight, a fun nail color, nail file and lotion at home can make you feel amazing as well!

  1. Go to Bed Early

This is a treat for any person who is overworked, overtired and overwhelmed! Rather than trying to finish the mile long to-do list or scrolling your phone mindlessly, go to bed early instead. It’s okay to rest. Even if you can’t fall asleep right away, your mind and body will thank you the next day.

  1. Take a Hike

Get outside and enjoy the fresh air! Stressed at work and cooped up in an office all day? Go for a walk. About to run away from your family over the weekend? Lace up the shoes and go for a hike. A walk outside will not only keep you physically active but re-energizes the mind and soul.

  1. Flowers

My whole mood is lifted when there are flowers in the house! I love my husband but it’s rare he gets me flowers and that’s okay because I have no problem buying myself flowers to display in our house! I like having a bouquet on my kitchen table because it’s a place where I can often see and smell them throughout the day. And I don’t need a dozen roses to make me feel special–a $4 bouquet from the grocery store does the trick as well!

  1. Solo Date

I personally enjoy taking myself out to dinner! As a mom it allows me to eat in complete silence if I want to, eat when my food is hot and ready and eat as slowly as I want without the fear of a child having a melt down before I’m done. The splurge is the alone time! This can also be cheap if you don’t want to ruin any financial goals you’re working on–a solo date at the park, a small picnic or sitting at the coffee shop to people watch–are all low cost date ideas.

Whether you want to reward yourself for hitting big goals or you just need a pick me up to feel good, these five ways to treat yourself without sabotaging the work you've already done are great and effective ideas.
