Features And Advantages of Fluid Bed Dryers In Pharmaceutical Industry.
Posted: Feb 18, 2023
Fluid Bed Dryers are commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry to reduce the moisture content of pharmaceutical particles and granules.
The pharmaceutical industry makes considerable use of fluidized or fluid bed dryers to lower the moisture content of raw materials like granules and powder. The fluidization of the materials being fed into the apparatus is part of its operation. Through a perforated bed of moist solid particles, hot air at a high temperature and pressure is injected into the system in this procedure. The solids are raised from the bottom and suspended in a stream of air while they are slightly damp (fluidized state). Once the moist solid and hot gases come into close contact, heat transmission starts to happen. The liquid is removed by the dry gas.
Advantages-
l High rates of moisture removal are achieved as a result of strong heat and mass transfer rates caused by excellent gas-particle constants.
l Drying contact limit is reduced.
l Fluid bed dryers guarantee fast and homogeneous drying.
l Fluid bed dryer handling is simple and Less Labor Intensive.
l Fluid Bed Dryer Is Suitable for both Continuous & Batch Material Processing.
Disadvantages-
l Drying Sticky Material is Quite Difficult.
l When organic solvents must be eliminated, this is not the best equipment to use.
l There is a high risk of attrition and, in some situations, fine particle aggregation.
Rapid Dryer :A Rapid dryer is used for Drying sand samples for determining Moisture percentage, Clay percentage, and Fineness number. The fluidized bed process, a method utilized in big industrial dryers, is used in the Rapid Dryer to achieve drying. Through a filter, outside air is sucked inside. The air is forced through the perforated plate and into the removable drying container by a blower after traveling through the engine and heating elements. The solid particles are agitated and forced upward, which keeps them apart from one another and prevents their surfaces from adhering. The air stream removes moisture from the particles before passing through the filter bag in the drying container's lid and out the other side. When working with goods with a diameter smaller than 100 m, it is recommended to use the quick-clamp cover with the filter fleece insert. 750-watt blower delivers
Advantages-
l With a variety of drying chambers and exhaust air filters, it is versatile.
l Only a few minutes' worth of drying times.
l The final product is loose, well blended, pourable.
Fbd Fluid Bed Dryer :A Fluidized Bed Dryer (FBD) is well known and widely used equipment in the granulation area of pharmaceutical manufacturing. It is used in the granulation process for drying the material to get desired moisture content in the tablet formulation granules required for perfect compression of tablets.
The fluidization principle governs how the fluid bed dryer operates. After passing heated, high-pressure air through a perforated container containing a wet mass of grains for a period of time, the granules and particles began to suspend in the air and dry out. This process is known as fluidization.
Advantages-
l Machine has ability to process large volume of fluids.
l Fluid Bed Dryers ensures Fast and Homogeneous Drying.
l Handling of FBD is easy and less labour intensive.
l Machine comes in wide range of capacities & sizes.
l The same temperature continuously remains.
l Temperature control is very good.
l Horizontal fluidized bed dryer is unlimited for operation because it can work continuously.
Disadvantages-
l Particle commutation (break up) is common.
l The particle usually breaks down in the fluid bed dryer.
l In fluidized bed dryer only a limited range of material is dried.
l A possibility of fine product loss.
Fbd Components-
l FBD bags.
l Product container.
l Plenum.
l Expension chamber.
l Exhaust blower.
l Body stainless steel.
l Gaskets.
l Control panel.
l Air distribution plate
