Posted: Feb 24, 2023
Writing The Boys: Winston, Cowboys are talking
It was a thriving offensive tackle class in the beginning, and the upcoming draft is incredibly well-rounded at this position in addition, which is surely hurting Winston's value.
Dallas seeks Free to cut pay
Doug Free is set to earn $7 million in 2013. and a the maximum at $10.02 million. For the Cowboys this is more than enough, especially considering that Free was the most penalized offensive tackle in the Madden NFL 23 last season. Dallas would like to sign Winston to fill in the role, and with Free kicking inside to guard. But, while the team has asked Free to reduce his salary, Free doesn't have the motivation to agree, given that his cap-to-pay remains the same regardless of whether he is released.
Jay Cutler "week-to-week"
Jay Cutler is reportedly targeting the week 14 return of his ankle injury, however his condition for the game on Monday will not be known until after this week. Bears head coach Marc Trestman said Cutler remains "week-to-week."
The Bears will resume training on Thursday. Cutler's participation amount could go a great way in determining how he'll be playing against Dallas. If he's able practice in a moderate manner it could mean he's on track to return on Monday. However, if not, it could be Josh McCown getting another start for the Bears.
McCown has performed well for Chicago, but Cutler's absence is apparent in the scoring. It is estimated that the Bears have an average score of 29 in games in which Cutler starts, and 22.8 PPG in games started by McCown.

Saints re-sign De La Puente
The emergence of Brian De La Puenta as a top-of-the-line center has proved an excellent development for the Saints, but both teams have been not able to agree on a long-term agreement so far. As of Tuesday night, they officially signed him for a single-year deal that is worth $2.023 million, and smart money is now on the team looking to negotiate an extension during the season.
In the Bills, Kolb gets paid... kind of
On Tuesday, the contract details for the quarterback Kevin Kolb trickled out, and some sense was made of the reported $13 million contract. According to the contract, Kolb's only guaranteed $1 million with a base salary of $6.1 million. Kolb is able to earn $13 million but only if the primary player and has plenty of escalators and incentive programs.
