If you’re the type of person (like I am) that doesn’t like showing up empty handed to a party or home then this is for you! I personally hate hosting myself because I know how much work it is–planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning–so I enjoy showing my appreciation with a gift aka "thank you that I don’t have to do all the extra work but you’re still welcoming me and my own."

The trick is finding a gift that suits the hostess while also not breaking my bank account! So whether you’re looking for the perfect gift to a friend who welcomed you to stay at their house all week or to a coworker who invited you to join an evening of fun, look through these five fun and affordable host and hostess gift ideas.

  1. Flowers (With a Vase)

Flowers are the classic, sweet gesture that I’ve never had anyone dislike receiving before. Who doesn’t like fresh cut flowers to liven up their home and enjoy for days to come?! You don’t have to show up with a dozen red, expensive roses or a fancy exotic arrangement either. A simple, partially blooming (so they last longer) bouquet will be welcomed. Bonus points if you already arrive with them in a vase or mason jar so the host doesn’t have to worry about them when you arrive.

  1. Kitchen Accessories

If your host or hostess is big into cooking, baking, or grilling then fun and creative accessories are a great way to show you care and know their likings. These items are usually something that they would not already have because they are not necessities. Fun examples are:

  • Beautiful new pot holders

  • Olive oil gift set

  • 3 piece cheese tool set

  • Cake serving set

  • New spices

  • USB lighter

  1. Games

Arriving with a game can be dual purpose–a nice gesture and a fun game to play while there! This is an especially great idea if you’re staying longer term or if you (or them) have kids to entertain. For an evening party, dinner questions, conversation starters or trivia questions can be a fun add on. Or for more kid friendly, arriving with new cards or board games will be much appreciated.

  1. Drink Accessories

The host will probably need a stiff drink after entertaining and opening their house up to others. The beauty of an accessory is it doesn’t have to cost a $50+ bottle of wine. A creative cocktail mixer set, drink tote, personalized coasters or fun wine glass markers would all be enjoyed.

If your host does not drink alcohol they will love these affordable but loved touches:

  • Syrup Set (coffee lover)

  • Honey lemon spoons (great for a tea drinker)

  • Fresh ground coffee beans

  • Stainless steel coffee spoons

  1. Food

Simple, affordable and made with love. Whether it’s a dip to share, pre-made dinner for the hostess to enjoy after you leave or a sweet bread for them to indulge in after they’ve entertained, they’ll be sure to enjoy whatever you brought them. And they’ll be grateful they didn’t have to make it, bake it, or clean up after it themselves!
