Situated in the heart of India, Central India is known as the State of Madhya Pradesh. Central India was an erstwhile name that was popular during the British Raj. During those times Central India covered a large area but now the state is divided between Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Both states are known for their forests but the tigers are only left in the state of Madhya Pradesh and which is known as the tiger state because the largest number of big cats now live here. The state has 300 big cats as compared to Karnataka which stands at 290.

The best reserve in Madhya Pradesh are:

  • Bandhavgarh National Park
  • Kanha National Park
  • Pench Tiger Reserve
  • Panna Tiger Reserve

These are most popular among tourists in India and overseas. A large number of domestic and overseas crowds visit these destinations. Among the most famous are.

Bandhavgarh

Situated in a remote district of Umaria while the forests stretch out to Shahdol And Jabalur Districts. It is home to 75 tigers in an area of 1500 sq.km The park is home to ancient structures built by the tribal. The safari amidst the big cats is exciting with ruins all around. Most of the structures are found in the Tala Range.

Pench National Park

Also known as Kipling Country, it is home to 45 big cats. The Jungle Book is based on these jungles in the Seoni District. The big cat sighting at Pench National Park is the best in Central India. All the animals mentioned in the jungle book are found in the park. For tourism, a permit is required for which a fee is charged. The open jeep rides are to be paid separately along with the guide fee at the gate.

Kanha National Park

Also situated in MP it is a park that received early conservation. It is 2000 sq. km in area with 940 sq. km as the core zone. It is well known for swamp deer conservation but is also a big cat park. It has more than 100 tigers all adults. The cubs are not counted. The park is home to many other animals.

In Madhya Pradesh tiger safaris are organized in all the parks in core areas. A permit is required which can be procured from MP Online.
