Combination potted plants are ornamental potted plants that can be freely combined with different plants according to their own preferences and aesthetics, and planted in the same container. Such potted plants are rich in color, have a long viewing period and are full of fun. But how to maintain it has become a confusion for many people.

1. Plant material

Since there are many types and quantities of plants planted in the combined potted plants, the fertility of the plant material must be sufficient, of course, the premise is that the soil is well ventilated and well drained. Mixed potted plants in spring and summer can use plant materials with a slightly stronger water retention capacity. Due to climate reasons, the amount of water transpiration is large, which will consume a lot of water. You can choose conventional plant materials such as peat, perlite, vermiculite, and coconut peat to mix in a certain proportion., You can also buy some large-grained succulent plant materials such as red jade soil. Another very important point is that if you use a large pot, you must put pot bottom stones on the bottom of the pot. In addition to promoting drainage and preventing rotten roots, it can also have ventilation and ventilation functions.

2. Fertilizer

The base fertilizer must be enough. Except for the organic fertilizer mixed with the plant material, we generally recommend applying slow-release fertilizers, which are long-lasting and clean. Of course, it would be better to give water-soluble thin fertilizer every two weeks during the growth period.

3. Lighting

For plants, the light through glass windows is often not enough, and many glass windows even filter out more than half of the visible light. Therefore, for some flower growers with closed balconies, it is best to choose some plants that are not so sensitive to light. Otherwise, try to keep your potted plants in direct, unobstructed sunlight in spring, autumn, and winter, especially in winter.

4. Moisture

At any time, it should be watered when the potted plants are needed, and don't rigidly abide by the saying of watering once every three days or once a week. There are many mixed potted plants in spring and summer, and the water consumption is fast. When the temperature is above 20 degrees, if the weather is fine, it is usually watered 1 or 2 times a day, and the potted plants placed in the open air should not be watered when it rains. In winter, the temperature is low, the water consumption is slow, and watering should not be frequent. Put the potted plants in a ventilated and rainy place during the rainy season.

5. Temperature

After the summer temperature exceeds 35 degrees, the scorching sun at this time is terrible for potted plants. Except for a few potted plants that can continue to be exposed to the sun, most plants should be properly shaded during the period from 11:00 to 16:00. For mixed potted plants in winter, we usually choose more cold-tolerant plants. As long as the weather is below zero, there is basically no major problem.

6. Pruning

Many people who grow flowers will ignore the issue of pruning, and are often reluctant to do it, or don't know how to do it, for fear of damaging the shape of the potted plants. In fact, you can only prune the remaining flowers and leaves. Residual flowers and fallen leaves contain a large number of bacteria and insect eggs, which will bring diseases and insect pests to the plants if they are left in the pot. If your potted plants suffer from pests and diseases, you can buy quick-acting, high-efficiency, low-toxicity, low-residue insecticides that are safe for flowers and potted plants. Insecticides containing laurocapram (azone) can promote the penetration of insecticides into insects. So don't be soft, pick up the scissors and trim it boldly. Once the plants bear fruit, they often stop or slow down flowering. Pruning the dead flowers is not only beneficial to control diseases and insect pests, but also promotes the growth of new buds and prolongs the flowering period.

7. Season change

After all, there are only a few flowering plants that can be viewed all year round. After we have made spring potted plants, the flowering period of many spring-flowered plants is often over after June. At this time, we should selectively change the seasons of the plants to prolong the overall ornamental period of the mixed potted plants.
