After introducing verification for creators in March 2023, Meta is now expanding its verification programme for businesses as well. Initially verification process will roll out for Facebook and Instagram in some selected areas and soon it will expand to WhatsApp. Businesses in selected locations can purchase a subscription to Meta verified at approximately $22 for a month for Facebook and Instagram and $35 for both (Facebook+Instagram verification). People are speculating that Meta’s recent move into paid verification followed changes at X, (Twitter), where paying subscribers were able to buy a blue check for a monthly fee. Just after rolling out the paid Twitter subscription got escalated in a huge way where users imitated brands, influencers, and celebrities to get checked blue!

Two sure-shot benefits for the Meta verified businesses are:
  1. Better placements in search results.
  2. Recommendations to users in the feed.

The paid business users will find their account at the top of search results, if not then at least near the top search results. Also, they will show up in a new carousel in the feed called "Recommended Meta Verified Businesses."

Meta Verification for businesses will also require businesses to meet certain activity and security requirements, and the person applying must prove their connection to the business. In order to purchase subscriptions, businesses will have to meet eligibility criteria such as verification through phone, email or domain name and minimum activity on their pages or Instagram accounts. However, Meta didn’t provide specifics around these requirements and said they will share more when it begins the rollout.

Ground-breaking Features for Whatsapp Business

The company is also building a verified program for businesses on WhatsApp. While it will start testing verification on the chat app in the future, the company shared some details on features. At the recently held Conversation Event in Mumbai, WhatsApp claims that one billion users message businesses every week on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram Direct. For making inquiries with brands, browsing product & service categories, seeking support, and interacting with stories, this is how Meta is witnessing a growing emphasis on developing the business side of the platform.

The introduction of "WhatsApp Flows," a new feature set to change the way businesses engage with customers directly within chat threads. Whatsapp flows will empower businesses to create tailored and seamless interactions within chat conversations. For instance, banks can now enable customers to schedule appointments for opening new accounts, food delivery services can facilitate orders from partner restaurants, and airlines can streamline flight check-ins and seat selection – all without requiring users to leave the chat thread.

Moreover, to further simplify in-chat transactions, Meta is expanding its payment capabilities. Building on the successful launch of its payment solution in Brazil and Singapore, Meta has announced the expansion of this service to India.

Verification will also unlock multi-device support for up to 10 devices for business accounts to make it easier for multiple people to handle customer queries and orders. Meta Verified for Business will start rolling out to select markets in the next few weeks. However, there is no release date for verification available to businesses on WhatsApp at the moment.
