Strengthen Your Faith with Stories of Prophets
Posted: Feb 22, 2024
Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. stated that wisdom or knowledge is the heritage of a believer and he must acquire it from wherever he can. The reason is that our faith is tested in all kinds of situations. Thus, it is our task as Muslims to learn from the life stories of prophets and apply them in our lives. Let’s discuss each story in sequence:
1. Prophet Yousuf AS – Achieving Life GoalsProphet Yusuf (Joseph) AS was very young when he saw a dream in which eleven stars, the sun, and the moon were prostrating to Him. He told His father Yaqub (Jacob) AS about the dream upon which he told His son that it was a sign of prophethood. Yusuf AS was later thrown into a well by his brothers due to jealousy as already feared by his father. As Allah narrates in the Quran, He was rescued by a merchant who later sold Him in the Egyptian market.
To cut a long story short, Yusuf AS faced trials through a woman called Zulaikha and was jailed. He eventually became the king of Egypt and His brothers and parents came to meet Him. It was a long reunion in which His parents and eleven brothers prostrated to Him. Yusuf A.S. told His father that this was the interpretation of His dream which Allah had fulfilled.
Lessons to LearnProphet Yusuf A.S. faced several trials for a long time following his dream. Those trials eventually led Him to the fulfillment of his dream but it took a long time. This gives a lesson to Muslims that Allah fulfills His promises but it can take time. So, Muslims must work hard with perseverance and remain patient in times of difficulty. Allah helps His believers in achieving their goals but it might take time. Thus, be patient and keep praying to Allah while opting for whatever options one gets.
2. Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. – Showing Love for WifeOnce one of the companions of the prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. asked Him, "Which of the people You love the most?" Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. replied, "Ayesha (R.A)." The companion asked, "After her?" Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. replied, "Ayesha’s father (Abubakr R.A)."
Lessons to LearnThis short and simple story gives Muslims a lesson to show love for their wives. It is important to know that this is a display of love for the wife in front of other people and not to her. Of course, showing love to a wife is important and prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. used to do that. He used to feed his wife Ayesha R.A. with His own hands and also used to drink water from the same glass and place from where she used to drink. In this story, the matter is about showing love and respect for one’s wife in front of people. This means that one must not refrain from saying words of respect and love for our wives in front of relatives if one truly feels that. Those words must not cross the limits of privacy though.
3. Prophet Ayub AS – Displaying Immense PatienceAllah narrates the story of the prophet Ayub A.S. in the Quran to give an example of his steadfastness in difficult times. He was a community leader and Allah also gave him wealth, health, and a family. Then Allah decided to test him and he lost his wealth, children, and health as a trial. His people cast him out of the city due to severe skin illness. It was so severe that the only organs of his body that kept working were his tongue and heart. He kept remembering Allah with that heart and tongue without showing displease over the trials he was facing. After around eight years of this trial, Allah gave him back his health, wealth, and family.
Lessons to LearnAllah discusses the patience of Ayub A.S. in the Quran to give the lesson of patience to His believers. He has already told in the Quran about testing believers with trials and tribulations to test their faith. This story tells us that in times of such trials, a Muslim must remain steadfast and exhibit patience without showing any displease.
