Penguin 2.0: It’s About Value, Not Victimization
Posted: Oct 13, 2013
We’ve been saying it for years and now it’s finally come to fruition: QUALITY content truly is king.
While the Web is abuzz with nail-biting commentary on how to avoid Penguin pings, I’d like to celebrate how the updated algorithm rewards quality over quantity. Google has finally made it possible for the cream to rise to the top, and has put to rest the black-hat villain.
Quality=Increased SEO TrafficEver since the May 22 watershed, my colleagues have been warning each other about bad links and over-optimization—all valid concerns, by the way. But I think there’s cause for celebration here. I, and obviously Google, think the bottom line lies in providing valuable advice and insight in an entertaining way. If you give readers what they want, they will read your stuff. And now, Google will rank it higher—and in clusters. More than that, they’ll come back for more. And the proof is in the research—the more times users visit your site, the more likely they are to buy whatever you’re selling. It just takes time.
It’s about investing in your customer. Taking the time, effort and yes, expense, to get to the heart of what your customers need and want, which we all know is most likely a solution to a problem. So, like the gurus say, give it to them. For free. Don’t try and hoodwink them with some teaser or advertorial. Google is rewarding sincere honesty. Give readers your honest opinion, your best advice and thoughtful insight into whatever problem they face. Because they trust you, they’ll trust what you have to offer. And the vigilant Penguin will stay away from your door.
Quality=More LinksFast Search Engines Rankings
We all know the name of the SEO game is acquiring links. Although there are some valid concerns about how Penguin now handles links, it’s truer now than ever: quality content attracts quality links.
Those who write quality content will attract the attention of quality people. Aligning with good people makes good things happen. Les Brown says, “Align yourself with people that you can learn from, people who want more out of life, people who are stretching and searching and seeking some higher ground in life.”
So thank you, Google, for making the Web a better place by making it possible for the cream to rise to the top. I, for one, applaud you.
