Sonic Wave is a solo Extreme Demon level with a difficulty rating of 1.9/2.0. It was produced, hack-verified, and first published by Cyclic during version 1.9 on 21 June 2015. The replica of Nine Circles is exceedingly challenging. Upon its release, Sonic Wave was widely regarded as one of the most challenging levels ever created. However, it remained unbeaten until it was verified and published by Sunix in version 2.0 on 25 November 2016. This achievement came after a series of hacking scandals, dramatic events, and a race to complete the level. Sonic Wave is a highly popular Extreme Demon in the game Geometry Dash. It has been downloaded the fourth most times and is the fifth most liked Extreme Demon. It is widely recognized as a significant part of the Geometry Dash community, symbolizing the division between easier and more challenging Extreme Demons. Sonic Wave has also served as inspiration for many remakes with different levels of difficulty and design. Zimnyte and Riot hosted a sequel called Cosmic Cyclone, which was published in version 2.1.

Sonic Wave originated from a preview published by Cyclic during mid-Update 1.9, showcasing a new Nine Circles level with a light blue color scheme. This version is now referred to as Old Sonic Wave. The level was designed to match Poltergeist in terms of difficulty, aiming to be the most challenging Nine Circles level. The level was confirmed and released on 21 June 2015, shortly after being shown; however, it was not given a rating as Cyclic's verification video was abruptly cut off after he stated that he had completed it without recording. Several players attempted the task, but none achieved significant advancement, only reaching the first ship. In July, Cyclic made the decision to remove the unrated level and developed an enhanced version using a dark blue color scheme. This decision was based on a survey conducted on Korean forums, where users were given the choice between five different color schemes: black, dark blue, navy blue, yellow/green, or geometry dash subzero orange. The updated version was released on July 20, 2015. This upgrade significantly increased the difficulty level compared to Bloodbath. Additionally, Cyclic produced a whole video of the level without any edits, resulting in the level being featured for little more than two weeks.

The community engaged in a discussion on the potential hacking of this level, given its excessive difficulty that surpassed the skill level of most players at that time. The majority of individuals accused Cyclic of engaging in hacking activities to manipulate the level. Prior to version 2.0, the level was substituted by a remade version called Cyclic On Track, which is frequently referred to as a Back On Track remake.
