Red Hat training and certifications are widely popular in the corporate world mainly for two reasons - first, because of its performance and stability, and second, because of its support model that has made it easier for organizations to execute and support Linux-based systems. And with the growth of Red Hat, there has been many new innovations, improvements, and addition of new features.

Red Hat in fact has been hugely adopted across enterprises. And because of this, the competencies required by corporates are in huge demand as well. Certifications like the RHCE Certification are not only popular but are being relentlessly sought by organizations. Red Hat knowledge along with Linux boot camp training and skills together offer up a plethora of opportunities and the RHCE certification holders are some of the highest-paid professionals in the industry.

That being said, here is a look at the RHCE certification path for IT professionals.

The first step is to gain the Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) certification. This license covers a wide range of Red Hat systems administration skills such as installation and configuration of the Red Hat OS, maintenance of multiple user account levels, stop and start of virtual machines, setting up of parameters for file storage and file system, and management of security within the OS.

To earn this license, it is important to pass the RHCE exam where aspirants will be required to complete the tasks in a live Red Hat environment. The certification remains valid for three years but those who wish to extend it can re-take the exam.

The next step is to achieve the RHCE certification. Once one has successfully completed the RHCSA and hold a valid certificate, he or she will become eligible to sit for the RHCE exam. The RHCE exam is also a practice-based exam where tasks have to be completed in a live environment.

The RHCE course requires extensive knowledge and an in-depth understanding of configuration activities, network-related activities, systems administration, and configuration and troubleshooting of protocols like DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, NFS, FTP, SMTP and NTP.

Once one has acquired the RHCE certification, it will remain valid for three years after which it can be renewed either by earning the Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA), or by re-taking the RHCE exam.

Because the RHCE exam is quite challenging, it is often recommended that IT professionals bring with them a sizable hands-on experience to understand the knowledge and learn the concepts. But in spite of the difficulty level of the exam, it is possible to achieve this certification with diligence and hard work.
